Genocidal Israelis destroy ancient religious site!

The mausoleum of Simon Peter, the Apostle of Christ, in southern Lebanon, has been obliterated, reduced to rubble by a deliberate bombing by the IDF.
Lebanon has been targeted over 50 times since a supposed "ceasefire" was agreed upon with destruction-obsessed Israel. Meanwhile, historic and cultural landmarks are being systematically erased, on purpose, leaving behind a legacy of loss that will outlast any political dispute.
What justification can be offered for obliterating a 2,000-year-old mausoleum?

I just don't get it. What benefit does it do them? It surely will only decrease their reputation on the world stage, and certainly with the Lebanese. How does blowing up old masoleums do the Israelis any good?
Also, where did you hear about this, because I'm trying to find an article reporting on this but all I'm getting is results about Saint Peter's Tomb in Rome, meaning almost no one is reporting on this incident. I'd love to read more about it.

Israel is wrong for having done this, but I find it kinda funny how in any other context there's no way Jamie would give two shits about a Christian religious site lol

Actually I think historic landmarks and cultural sites are important and I've often been pretty damn outraged by the epic vandalism of such sites carried out by the uncultured heathens in Saudi Arabia, for example.
History matters. If a culturally, historically significant building like that one is destroyed, it is destroyed for ever, you can't get it back. I think that matters.

I don't doubt you're sincere in this belief but it still strikes me as very odd.
Christian teachings, in your view, are at best worthless, maybe evil.
Christians themselves are people who have been duped into believing in a fake god. They should stop being Christian.
But Christian buildings/historical sites are very worthy things to preserve.

I'm curious then what your thoughts are on the tearing down of monuments/statues in the U.S., mostly in the news a few years back. The justification of "eliminating racism" was used to destroy not only Confederate, but also Union, American Revolutionary, and other monuments entirely disconnected from the Civil War.

I assure you I am sincere.
I am not a follower of the Kushite religion or any other ancient Egyptian religion, yet I would be shocked if the Great Pyramid of Giza was destroyed.
I am not a Hindu, yet I would consider it a great shame if the Taj Mahal was torn down.
I live in County Durham, four miles away from this building:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Durham_Cathedral
Durham Cathedral is a fascinating historic building which is over 900 years old. It is a living part of the history of the British Isles. I do not need to be a Christian to enjoy living in its vicinity; it is not necessary for me to profess belief in God and Jesus to marvel at the great feat of its construction.
I do not think my attitude in this context is "odd" at all.

From what I have heard about it, I think that this destruction of monuments was taken somewhat too far, and led to the removal of statues which, as you say, were not even connected with America's deeply problematic history of racism. I support the removal of some of the statues concerned but, even then, might have suggested placing some of them into storage, or a museum of some kind, rather than just tearing them down.

By the way - not being a religious scholar myself - I believe I am correct in understanding that the "Shimon" to whom this shrine was dedicated, is the same character known more widely as "Simon Peter", with "Shimon" being his birth name (recorded as Shimon Bar Yonah, according to online encyclopaedias), and the name to which he is still referred to in Lebanon. (Correct me if that is wrong).

Quibbling here but the Taj Mahal was built by Shah Jahan, the Mughal emperor As you may have guessed now by his name, he was definitely NOT Hindu:

I am not an expert on the religious history of the Mughal empire, but this is irrelevant trivia in terms of the actual point being made. Yes, you are quibbling.
