Debate over the Northern Ireland protocol is complicated by the fact that Northern Ireland has no functioning representative democracy, but in the last election, a majority of people voted for parties who are in favour of the protocol.

Meanwhile, the EU is threatening (or taking) legal action.

Will this tarnish the UK's reputation and make any difference to other countries considering making international agreements with the UK (eg trade deals)?

I believe that the UK's position is that the EU is breaking the terms of the agreement, thus providing solid legal grounds for withdrawal. This isn't a political whim thing, but has the backing of the attorney general

I believe the UK is wrong... But that is for the courts to decide.
