Ports chaos has shut Honda motor factory due to parts shortage.

Honda confirmed to employees production “will not run on Wednesday 9 December due to transport-related parts delays”... - situation monitored with view to restart production as soon as possible

From what I've heard, lots of firms are trying to stockpile ahead of brexit. Ports are overwhelmed, with some shipments redirected to europe. Can't wait to see how much worse it gets with customs declarations needed for goods entering/leaving the UK. I think it will be great if we don't have enough capacity to bring medicines to Ireland because the UK isn't prepared for the thing they've been doing for 4 years...

Especially now that we have a vaccine we need to import.

I heard that there is a new ferry line going direct between France and Ireland. I think we need more of that, bypassing the UK. That is just problem. Skip it. Let them die alone! :-)

Also in Scotland they are planning to abandon the sinking ship ...

Yeah, there has always been a port in the SE of Ireland with passanger service to France (in my life at least) but also decent (ish) rail and road connections for freight. Increasing capacity there is great, but it is also limited.

I doubt the space for increased capacity will equal to total capacity from holyhead-Dublin port. So I suspect there will be some freight going from France all the way to Dublin.

In other news, the UK has negotiated a agreement to continue trading with Singapore on the same terms the EU trades on... Not really a 'new' trade agreement, just extra work that Brexit has made necessary to maintain the status quo.

Looks like no deal is on the way. Good thing all this stockpiling has begun, as WTO rules are going to make a further mess of import/export industry.

While the DUP are threatening violence against customs agents in Northern Ireland.

Yes no-deal is looking more and more like this will happen. It is starting to get more and more obvious that no-deal actually was what Boris was going for all the time. Everyone was just a subject to Boris scammy tricks and desinformation strategy.

I feel sorry for all the young peple in UK that have to live with the dire consequences of what old grumpy men like Boris, Nigel Farage and John Cleese have tricked the country into. And now it all seems to be the fault of that complete idiot David Cameron.

It is the fault of a lot of people, but David Cameron and Boris must bear a lot of the blame.

I hope Octavious joins this conversation soon to update us on how brilliant Boris's negotiation strategy is turning out to be.

Brexit is ruining this country and the worst is yet to come. People will continue to suffer and die as a result of 10 years (and counting) of Tory misrule. Watching footage of any of our Government ministers makes me want to vomit. I don't know whether to be angry or sad. I suppose I am both. If Scotland becomes Independent of the rest of the UK, I may very well return there. England is a cesspit populated by racists and idiots.

The current Conservative Government are engaging in corruption and graft, stealing the nation's wealth and handing it to their friends and relatives. Most of the cabinet should be in jail for corruption and fraud.

Oh wow, so the EU is now playing hardball too. Macron and Merkel won't take a meeting with Johnson, pushing him back to Ursula von der Leyen...

So Johnson man now be caught between "no deal" and an embarrassing backdown? As Octavious would say "Oh dear"...

To be fair, this was the only hand Johnson could have played. He promised to get the better deal so he had to go all out. Let's hope the EU and the UK can still come to some agreement in the next couple of weeks.

Given the deadline of Sunday, I'm not expecting anything resembling a deal to come out either now, or in the next few week.

Only the Northern Ireland protocol (which seemingly applies even after Dec 31st) is going to keep some semblance of order in Ireland (while the DUP threatens violence against EU inspectors at ports/airports).

The point is this:
As oppose to the mouron currently occupying the White house, Boris is at least medium educated if not even better (Eton) and Boris has at least a normal intelligence quota. Boris also has some previous experience of politics so he should know a lot more.

With this in mind, I am sure that Boris knows what the limits are for what he can achieve in the negotiations with EU. But despite this his negotiation position has always been outside the achievable zone and he knows this. And I say that this is 100% intentional.

Because Boris have been looking for "no-deal" all along, and he is smart enough to set up a scam where he can deny everything in order to try to blame EU for the no-deal result afterwards.

Have they not been billing this as a Australia style deal (aka not having a comprehensive free trade agreement)?

No, he promised he *had* a deal. An "oven ready" deal that would be easy to agree.

He was lying. He always lies. He is a corrupt incompetent who cares only about himself.

That isn't a "deal". That's just trading on WTO terms.

Calling that a "deal" is semantics to fool the press and the gullible Tory voters who would let Boris shove a rusty metal spike up their arses if it had a Union Jack painted on it.

Yes he was using those words, that we may be ending up with a "Australia kind of trade agreement with EU" not a "Canadian kind of trade agreement".

And Boris has been going for no-deal all along because he wants true independence. Boris wants to be allowed to do social dumping and subsidice companies as he wishes. Boris want to be able buy solely from UK companies and disregarding offers of foreign companies when government does purchases.

These are things that are not possible to do if you want to have access to the single market of the EU. Boris wants to become a small pope in 10 Downing street that can hand out benifites to his UK and Russian friends and this is why he go for the no-deal.

And now, for something completely different. A 48 hour ban on people travelling to the continent (and to RoI) by plane or ferry...

Which means containers on the back of trucks will be delay (should affect all freight). I think all the bans are temporary while the situation is assessed...

What possible value in negotiations could be found by refusing to allow any deal which may be struck actually be implemented?

EU Parliament will not ratify until it has had time to read the text... so If BJ gets his way a no deal is guaranteed.
