Surprising. Does this indicate that tear-gassing peaceful protesters outside a church *isn't* a vote winner?

Pretty sure his die hard supporters will not bat an eyelid. Whereas how many citizens have been arrested who would otherwise have voted for Biden?

Trump's supporters see this as him getting religion. While clergy from a Christian church got tear gassed, they weren't from the sects and cults that support Trump.

Joe 'shoot them in the legs' Biden, is not winning many votes with the current group of protesters... He may not lose too many votes either, but he is too conservative for this grouping...

Meanwhile Minneapolis are looking at drastically reducing their police force. That is the kind of radical solution which will win votes.

Is that Jamie cheering the concept of large scale police cuts I see before me? I never had you down as a closet Theresa May fan.

No, I was sarcastically implying that voting for the city of Minneapolis was unlikely to be an option in the Presidential election.

I can assure everyone that I have never been a supporter of Mrs. May's closet.

Quick question for all you Democrat voters out there.

If you could have anyone you want for President, who would be top of your list? And would Biden make your top 5? Or top 10? Or even top 100?

Quick question for you, what is the difference between a democrat and a democrat voter?

And to be specific, is only one a party member, while the other is a voter?

My question is to try and establish what level of enthusiasm there is for Biden from people who tend to vote Democrat. It is a question I am interested in and which I don't know the answer to. What is the purpose of yours, ora?

To understand what you are asking. Thanks for the quick answer.

I guess Biden may make my top 100 (barely). We really can't find anyone better under 70?

In some ways this may be a repeat of 2016. The election will be decided by which candidate people hate the least. I think many people were willing to give Trump the benefit of the doubt last time. Given what has happened, especially this year, I doubt that they will swing the same way again. Of course it is still a long way to November and anything can happen. I don't want to jinx it...

Maybe. I don't know. The Democratic tendency to shoot itself in the foot is never far away. If they passionately adopt vote losing strategies like massively cutting the police and Biden does his best to put people off voting for him with "they ain't black" comments and generally being invisible... who knows?

I think Trump's faithful will largely stick with him. I'm not really sure if Biden has a faithful, and numbers of Democrat leaning voters lining up to vote out of civic duty has never been particularly impressive.

I agree. Like "Abolish ICE", I am not sure the "Defund The Police" thing is a winning move. I could perhaps understand if it means we get rid of local police forces...instead moving them to state control (much of the corruption comes from the local part). It is crazy that the Minneapolis Mayor, who was incredibly supportive of the protests, was booed because he didn't support "Defund the police".

It is really unfortunate that Biden was chosen. The last three times that democrats won the presidency, the candidate was a fresh faced outsider (Carter, Bill Clinton and Obama). Democrats will largely have to rely on intense dislike of Trump to drive turnout though that is pretty strong. Trump keeps fanning those divisive flames making it really hard not to dislike him intensely. I am just hoping the more extreme democrat supporters don't sit this one out or vote for Trump in the hope that this can bring on the revolution four years from now (I am looking at you Susan Sarandon).

Defund the police, and what it would look like is an interesting discussion.

Like would drug addiction be removed from police pervuew and funding assigned to health services (OK, maybe this will not make sense in the US context).

Fraud, tax evasion, and financial crime, that should be owned by the revenue (the IRS?)

Traffic related violations, yes remove 'police powers' setup an unarmed group for dangerous driving, licenses and insurance (with car registration you can just take a picture of a registration plate if they drive off). Most of this could actually be automated....

Continue in this vein, to defund police until it is closer to a rapid responce force only used for dealing with violent crime (I guess mass shooting in the US).

Edit: any ideas for domestic violence, I don't think the police currently do a good job handling it, but what should handling it look like?

Exactly, ora. The Democratics could start talking about things like that and Trump would have a good chance of winning.
