Famous Irish man dies

#1 Post by orathaic » Sat Apr 25, 2020 9:34 am

In the spirit of things that would be news if Corona wasn't the only news...

A cousin of mine, who my dad described as 'For a certain generation he was probably the most famous Irish person in the UK. Well radio caroline was anyway.' died recently.

Nice write up: https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radi ... y-obituary

I wonder if our UK based dippers heard of him (and yes, since no-one asked, the ora(t)h(a)i in my username are the same family name as O'Rahilly)

RIP.

I had heard of him but only faintly, and I am very interested in the history of music radio. So, I guess a lot of people won't have heard of him, I'm afraid.

Not really on my radar, so the name doesn't ring a bell. I've heard quite a few people in my parent's generation speak fondly of radio Caroline though. Clearly a man who made an impressive impact.

All the best to him.
