What is the weather like in Italy?

How many countries have managed to effectively prevent person to person infections?

How many deaths have there been compared to the seasonal flu?(cdc estimates of 12-61 thousand deaths per year, out of 9.3-45 million infections... https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/index.html)

Spreading misinformation:
https://www.yahoo.com/huffpost/rush-lim ... 11730.html
Rush Limbaugh claims that it isn't serious despite 2618 deaths at the same time it's a Chinese bioweapon. Which is it?

The only that is worse is Trump that can switch from one extreme to an opposite one within the same conversation.

Quite pleasant, temperatures in the high teens... Pretty much like an Irish summer, but with a little more sun.

No idea, and not a particularly useful measure as countries will have had wildly differing levels of exposure. If a country turns back the single carrier that visits would that count as effectively preventing person to person infections?

No idea, and don't really see the relevance.

Seasonal flu has a 0.1% death rate and Coronavirus is currently 2%. These figures will change over the next 6 months until the flue season is over.

On a more positive note my company has sent out an email saying anyone returning from an infection hotspot should take two weeks off work to be on the safe side regardless of whether they are showing any symptoms.

A weekend trip to northern Italy is suddenly looking very tempting!

You should go before Trump closes the borders. His quotes from 2014 criticizing Obama for allowing flights from Ebola areas have surfaced.

Trump's views of the law pretty much lets him do anything he wants outside of his puppet master's realm. He's been telling Europe what to do for years.

Look at the incompetent he's putting in charge of the US response. He's also requiring that the CDC have him grant approval to public statements of medical advice.

Come a little closer, huh, a-will ya, huh?
Close enough to look in my eye, Corona
Keeping it a mystery, it gets to me
My medical conditions underlie, Corona.

M-m-m-my Corona

38% of American beer drinkers are allegedly avoiding Corona beer due to the Coronavirus (insert Picard facepalm meme here):

So at least some good has come from all this :-D

I refuse to accept that 38 percent of American beer drinkers drank Corona in the first place. The only time anyone has an acceptable reason for ordering one is when you find yourself invited to one of those restaurants that don't really do beer, and the only alternatives are downing an entire bottle of wine or spending as much money as on the food on one of those cocktails with a firework in it.

It's not that bad. Certainly isn't the worst beer to come from the Americas. It is also a beer I can drink with someone that usually doesn't like beer (like my wife).

True enough. The absolute worst beer from the Americas is Sol, which is genuinely undrinkable. Corona, if you add enough lime, at least has the decency to taste vaguely of lime. What it isn't, however, is good. On my list of drinks it ranks somewhat below tap water.

Tap water from where? Perhaps tap water from your area is especially tasty...

Latest newsflash: twitter is full of people blaming the Dems and media for harming the stock market by reporting on the Coronavirus. Seriously, when public health is less important than your 401k, because 'people dying is fake news'.

You live in peak inequality. The media as it happens IS making money from fear, but they are supposed to profit; that is how the free market was designed. So complaining about them doing their jobs because it hurts the stock market (and thus makes Trump look bad?) while arguing for the stock market upon which your free market depends (for investment from the public and financing the innovation which is supposed to make the system good); just seems hypocritical to me.

But worse, the lackluster (and racist) response from the Trump administration is making them look irresponsible. The appointment of someone who doesn't have any expertise in disease control, or acceptance of science, is a pretty damning choice. We will soon see how they capitalise on this epidemic. Selling vaccines? Investing in private companies to do public health work and then charging the public through the nose for it? All the advantages of the free market! None of the downsides of socialism.

Yawn.

Ora, you should really stay off Twitter. It's messing with your sense of perspective.

As for Pence, what's the issue? You don't want a doctor in charge of a hospital, you want someone good at running hospitals. Same principle is true here.

Is the media getting overexcited and exaggerating the danger? It probably is. The media often focus on the more extreme ends of what's possible.

And it would seem that public health is less important than you having an opportunity to have your usual rant at capitalism. It does get a little tiresome.

A Trump supporter just said to me:

"We never even heard of a coronavirus until just now, with the election 10 months away. Clearly it's just another hoax by the Democrats to make Trump's approval rating go down. And it ain't gonna work."

He was dead serious.

https://twitter.com/SergioJSiano/status ... 78978?s=19

I mean, public health is important, but spreading the message that the virus is a hoax is not in the interest of public health.

And yes, the media sells more when they have fear to help. Not perfect, but it never has been. Still better than absence of free speech, or locking up the doctors in China who first reported the outbreak.

Remember this moment: Trump, in South Carolina, just called the coronavirus a "hoax."

Ora, before I waste any more time looking at random crap on Twitter. If you're going to post about Trump calling the coronavirus a hoax, could you link to something showing him actually doing it rather that some random hack claiming he did.
