And Boris has been going for no-deal all along because he wants true independence. Boris wants to be allowed to do social dumping and subsidice companies as he wishes. Boris want to be able buy solely from UK companies and disregarding offers of foreign companies when government does purchases.
These are things that are not possible to do if you want to have access to the single market of the EU. Boris wants to become a small pope in 10 Downing street that can hand out benifites to his UK and Russian friends and this is why he go for the no-deal.

All we can do is hope.
Finding a way around not having time to ratify is somewhat impressive. I wonder will MEPs pick the text apart and will Westminster do the same? I bet it will be a fair acomplis by the time actual elected officials get to have their say...

Yes. God bless you. I was wrong!
If all approve it we have a deal. That is good for everyone. Mostly good for UK business and workers and yes it is also good at least on the margin for all people in the EU member states since trade EU <-> UK will be less difficult than with a no-deal solution.
But this trade agreement is STILL NOT AS GOOD for the economy and trade as UK being a full EU member would have been.

But given that the EU Parliament has said they will not approve it until they have time to read it in depth, do we have 'pending approval' status for Jan 1st? I thought Boris said he wouldn't do that...

On the news they said that all 27 member governments and the UK Parliament need to approve the deal next week in order for it to be applied by everyone at the border and elsewhere until the final approval needed will be given by the EU Parliament mid-late January.

It feels exactly the same as the old one. But yes, there are distinct advantages. We didn't end up waiting a few weeks to start vaccinating people for the sake of European unity, for example. Out of curiosity, were people in Ireland angry about that? And if not, why not?

They are angry that the centre right government have fucked up the response to the pandemic, in much the same way as I see lots of Brits angry at the aTories.

If you are aware of any nation in Europe or America satisfied by their government's response do share. In all honesty I don't think they've done that bad a job all things considered, but delaying the vaccine for the sake of a political unity PR stunt is something I can't for the life of me find any justification for.

No, Ireland waiting another 4 days after the vaccine was approved and blamed training of staff... It is a level of incompetence rivaling that of Boris Johnson's current scam.
