And another thing. No one wears nice hats anymore. I rarely see even a flat cap, and almost never a fedora, where those used to be (as in, a century ago) a common part of a gentleman's outfit. Since no one wear hats, no one observes proper hat-wearing etiquette. I try to look for guys taking off their hat when sitting to eat or when talking to a girl, but almost never see it.
I worked at a ~19th century historical theme park during high school, which enforced the old norm of *having* to wear a hat for staff. It was abysmal haha. When the bosses got mad at me for not wearing my bowler, I claimed that I was just roleplaying as whatever trailblazing person was first to get fed up with this ritual.

I think the first ~9 seasons of The Simpsons were the only good ones and I've been reluctant to adopt Tik Tok. Otherwise, I try to live in this century despite its many pitfalls. Sometime in the next 10 years I'll probably ossify and young bucks will no doubt wonder why I'm clinging to old fashioned things like liberal democracy and going outside.
Perhaps I'm just an oddity amongst my fellow Gen-Zers, but I'm highly reluctant to adopt TikTok. Or Instagram, or Snapchat... ok, really I just don't find any good in participating in modern day social media platforms.
You may in fact be missing out. Instagram can be a toxic, performative, time-wasting sink hole. But it is also the staging ground for an absolute explosion in creativity.

Instagram reduced the barriers for content creation. That has allowed for a ton of experimental and extraordinarily niche content that otherwise would never exist.

It's deeply flawed, but Instagram was the source of some of the funniest and most creative things I've ever seen/heard and none of this content have ever reached me (nor even been made) on TV, streaming, magazines, etc. The algorithm it employs is surprisingly good at intuiting what I'm interested in—which is sometimes to my own detriment.

Tik Tok is much the same, maybe better. But I found its approach to content suggestion was a little too aggressive and I don't want to train an algorithm with my interests for a service I might lose access to when China invades Taiwan lol.
That's true... I suppose it's just the kind of content which bores me. I've wasted many an hour scrolling through YouTube shorts, so I know some of what there is to see... and while it's a lot easier to just switch tabs to YouTube than it is to pick up a book and start reading, I find that the latter is far more interesting. Social media often bores me.

Yeah, in high school I probably wouldn't have liked that restriction. Now I do it voluntarily. I don't know exactly what's changed, except that I find it practical and I like the style (at least of fedora and flat caps. I don't have a bowler).

The UK military is very big on hat etiquette. Outside of that, it's very much a free for all here. But at least everyone who wears a hat now does so because they want to rather than out of some societal obligation.

Alas, the same is true of churches and they are worse because of it. Churches had a far more relaxed atmosphere when most of the people who went weren't really that in to religion.

I will say, as much as I'd like to see more guys wearing such head-toppers, I certainly agree with you here. And I recognize that there is less practicality to certain types of them nowadays, given that we spend most of the day indoors and our cars are fully enclosed.

I'm not so sure a 1930s crank starter is more reliable than a 21st century electric one lol

Arguing about it seems pointless, because the latter is useless without a battery.

I saw there was chat in this thread. I did not expect to come in here and see an argument about whether cars should still be started using a hand crank.

You people are weird.

We all agree that what's going on in Gaza is horrific, so I guess we've moved on to flatcaps and hand cranks

Looking at the Venn diagrams from webDip's consumer research it's not all that surprising

At this point Israel is now seeking to control the supply of food and other aid, and the Israeli Genocide Force is then gunning down civilians queueing for aid.

These sick fucks need to be stopped and our governments do NOTHING.

For shame.

It's crazy to me that this is not even an exaggeration.

Aid was first weaponized by being withheld.

Now desperate Palestinians lining up for aid are being shot in multiple documented cases. The UN has promised to investigate, as if that will do anything....

Dozens of Palestinians have been killed as they tried to access aid in Gaza, hospitals report.

Two hospitals in Gaza City said 25 people were killed overnight, near a convoy transporting flour and a food distribution site run by the US- and Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation in the Israeli military zone.

The Civil Defence agency said Israeli forces opened fire on civilians. There are also reports of people being crushed by lorries

Israel is a Nazi state and should be dismantled.

Israel no longer has any legitimate right to exist, even if it ever did. Dismantle it and send the Israeli population away. America would take them.

You have good reason to be. I'm just pointing out that you've said the same thing a multitude of times here, and so while I understand the sentiment, it doesn't mean anything to anyone else for you to say it once more. But if you just need to vent and this is your method of doing so, I get that.
