*forgot to mention- alternatively, make games that have 101 point buy ins. You virtually guarantee solid enough players by doing that, or at least it's always worked from what I've seen.

Wusti, the reason you have a low rating has nothing to do with the fact that you haven't "gamed" the system. It has to do with the fact that you've lost the majority of the games. I just played a game with you in the Masters and I can confirm thah your tone here is 100% reflective of how your in game press. I am not surprised at all by how often you lose or how unaware you are as to why it happens. If anything, (GR or otherwise) is stopping you from joining these games then it has my full endorsement.

P.S. Elo is a name, not an acronym.
You are just pissed off that I flipped the game to France costing you precious GR with a survive instead of shared Board top. I'd do it again to after the way you played. My mother always taught me: never give an ultimatum unless you don't care which choice they make. Share Board top or take you down? It was one of the easiest choices I've made. Cheers.

Hey I have a question regarding the nature of the tournament. Are the games we are slotted in for now a sort of bracket with follow-up games coming later, with some kind of scoring system in place, or is it just a one-off, duke-em-out matchmaking setup to play against similarly ranked players?

I hope this is going to become an ever-going thing.

This wasn't intended to be a "tournement" per se. It's a fun way to get some games going. I'll happily do this every couple of months or try come up with different ways to get new FP games going but there's no bracket to this.

Little late to this party, but as webDiplomacy's official babysitter, I'm sure Yonni is open to constructive feedback on how these games are set up, but if you don't like a series of games based around Ghost Rating, or if you don't like the Ghost Ratings in general, then don't play in a series of games based around the Ghost Ratings and don't pay attention to the Ghost Ratings when I publish them. It's not really that hard to just not hijack a thread.

If you want to understand why your GR specifically is suffering, or complain about the existence of GR and how it just makes your skin crawl, make your own thread in an appropriate category.

Gotcha! I was just wondering if there was going to be a follow-up, although I know very little about how a tournament would work out with advancing and such, especially when most games end in draws. I guess sum-of-squares?

There certainly could be a “League” element added to this sometimes. For instance, this could be set up as a three game tournament, after the first game, the top three in each game move up a board, the bottom three move down a board, and see who can top each board in the final game / round three. This would allow more intermingling of GR, and allow for the possibility of a player starting in G3 “winning” the final top board.

I like that idea but top 3 brings "draw size" into account and a meta that I wasn't intending. I'd rather say that anyone that solos is given a spot on the top board next challenge regardless of their GR or something like that.

@Yonni I think we may need a replacement for Emperor Joshua in game 5, as he has not logged on since Saturday.

Let's give him a bit to join but we can look for one soon if he's holding the game up from starting.

I traveled unexpectedly (funeral) in August and missed turns in a game I was playing; unfortunately this puts me at 75%. I don't expect that I would miss any turns if I am allowed to play (game 1). If I've lost that privilege, then I understand.

Its possible I'm stretching everyone's patience here, but - traveling again (happier occasion), back Sunday. Could totally start tomorrow if that's the group preference, but would vote Sunday if no one has a strong view.
