Twilight of the Classical World: New Variant, Comments Wanted

#1 Post by David E. Cohen » Thu Mar 30, 2023 1:25 am

This eight-player variant is set in an uncommon era, between the fall of Rome and the rise of Islam, toward the end of that period, in 609, during the Heraclian revolt against Emperor Phocas. I welcome comments or criticism. Variant rules are on the map, which can be found at https://davidecohen.wixsite.com/diplom ... ical-world.

Interesting! I just noticed a couple typos:
"Standard. Diplomacy"
"Asturia"

The period will be removed.

I do not believe Asturia is a typo, for this era.

I will concede that there are many possibly correct spellings. :-D

Some changes. Other than cosmetic stuff and a few name changes, I moved the dot to in Barcino south to the newly created Valentia, and changed the unit to a fleet with options to move to Ligurian Sea or Tyrhennian Sea. I combined Barcino and Tarraconensis, and combined Tolosa and Aquitaine. I think overall, this gives a better interaction among the Visigoths, Franks and Lombards. The Franks now have a decision to make with Tolosa, since the Lombards have at least a somewhat reasonable anti-Frankish opening, and the Africans need to be more concerned about the west. The Visigoths can force Tarraconensis if they choose, or just opt for a defensive move there with the fleet while sending the army to Carpetania. Up north, I not extended Saxony eastward and eliminated Pomerania entirely, since it really doesn't serve a purpose anymore. I think that these changes improve the balance among the western and central Powers.
