Muting in Game

#1 Post by jmo1121109 » Sun Nov 24, 2019 10:03 pm

We've had some reports of problems with muting, specifically for people on phones. Currently the mute feature is designed weirdly where toggling the mute is part of the URL (not sure why this was done). Phone browsers refresh themselves if left alone for a while. So if you unmute someone and then go to a different app and come back to the site, or refresh the page, you'll end up muting them again. You can always go to your settings page to see all the games where you have someone muted at the bottom of the screen.

To get there choose "Account" in the menu and then "site settings" and scroll all the way down, don't see anything about mutes? Then you don't have anyone muted. Otherwise you'll see a list of games. Click on that game and scroll down to see if the speaker icons next to anyone's name under the map has a red X next to it. That means they're muted.

Sometime in the next week I will probably be removing the mute functionality entirely as it has multiple bugs that are just not realistically fixable and can be used for malicious intent. If for some reason following these steps doesn't get you back to a normal state in your game, email the mods at [email protected]

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Regards,
WebDip Dev

To clarify, in order to break the endless chain of muting and unmuting another player, you should be able to go to the URL of the game you are viewing and replace it with the generic game URL without other options appended. For example:

https://www.webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=257937

You may notice that there is more to your URL than there is to the one above, which as jmo notes appears to be the main issue right now. Once you take all of those extra requests out of the URL and reload the page with your simplified URL, you should not face that issue anymore.

This will only work if you are the one actively muting other players. There may be another independent bug with the mute feature that affects you even if you haven't muted anyone yourself. In that case, please follow jmo's instructions and email [email protected].
