Home Page Updates

We made some updates to the home page today.

They include:
  1. Adding a "Defeated" section where all your defeated games will show up
  2. Adding a enable/disable notices button on all games so you can hide notifications from games are defeated in easily. This is for the notifications in the center column of the home page only, it does not impact press message icons.
  3. Restyling the font/layout of the notifications
  4. Working with a bot that analyzes your press, and mouse movement speed during each year of a game and assigning a mood to your actions during that turn of the game and displaying each notification in a color representative of that mood.
You may need to clear your cache to see some/all of these changes.

The home page is very complex so if you notice problems please let me know. Do note the mood coloring is a work in progress and as it's press AI becomes better the color's will be more accurate for how you were feeling that turn.

Ah fixed, thanks for that. And yeah, we're really happy with the press analyzer for determining moods!

I find this strange, how do you train this? Is it a neural net with a certain test set of data? Is there a feedback to correct the mood value?

No, it's not. It's a, jmo restyled the home page but had to do the new forum section part blind because the install for the code doesn't include a phpbb3 setup, and I got it about 90% right. That page is too big to change everything in one night, so it'll get corrected font size wise in the next couple days.

I did however manage to blindly get it to break the forum titles that were too long onto another line and get it to refresh every 5 minutes instead of every 15.

The colors symbolize moods... OK, what color symbolizes what?

And why are they changing so often??? (because the bot gives a different analysis every time?)

Very impressive how well it works even for gunboat games.

Yes, the gunboat games are based entirely on mouse tracking patterns and combinations of mouse click times.

Because we're open to suggestion and we got a substantial amount of feedback on this in the last hour or so, the appearance "enable notices" button will match the link to the left to open the game when I'm done working on it in a little bit. Hopefully that helps for those of you who aren't quite used to this update yet.

It's an unsupervised dimension reduction / clustering model. Basically, we encode your press (and mouse movements) into a 3 dimensional vector such that press expressing similar moods are close to each other in the vector space. We get the color by just mapping that to rgb space. So that means the colors don't necessarily correspond directly to moods that you can name.

This is super cool, but the text is the wrong size on my home page.
Also, we need to see the colour to mood translation. I need to know my mood. :-D
Editing: at least tell us what colours are where on the graph so we can use that information. This site just reached next level stuff!

The most important thing to take away from this is that some of yall are super depressed and need to seek help.

OK... thanks for answering my question. One more, then... If you are just mapping analysis of my press/mouse movements and putting it on an rgb space, doesn't that mean that the colors represent nothing? No disrespect meant... I'm just trying to understand.

For example, I just finished a live game. The colors represented by the draw are red, green, purple, orange, blue, and yellow. My moods are represented by those colors... so my mood is very mixed?
Thanks!

The colors represent whatever the model thinks is important. By mapping to 3d space, we're essentially forcing the model to consider three dimensions when clustering your moods. Those dimensions may or not map neatly to English descriptions of mood.

I presume part of it is also because the AI is very new and does not have much experience, so it's still trying to work out how to balance its judgement and is constantly re-evaluating.

It took me a while to understand too, but I'm very impressed with what has been put together.

OK, so if the color is represented by what the model thinks is important, but the color does not exactly pertain to mood, then why is it called a mood? It's just an output of a model. Not to say that it doesn't mean anything to some people, but again, I'm just trying to understand. Thanks!
