This really would not have been as hard is it was, had you followed up the "government" angle and narrowed down his area of government service, instead of spending seven questions chasing down his partisan political sideline.

I can only speak for myself and this isn't meant as a shot at any particular QMs or guessers, but having made guesses in this situation only for someone else to come in and ninja it after the QM gives a subsequent gamebreaking clue really dissuades me from going first, or second, or third, or anything until the additional information comes in. (I made a joke about this in a past thread and I want to be clear this isn't targeted at any one poster or QM).

Not too late to scratch. Any scratch is effective until I answer. The answer to your latter question is No.

And to clarify the rules, since its rare that we get to 20 questions, the game in total is allowed five guesses. Any player may make more than one guess, the only limiting factor being that they cannot make three in a row. Thus one person could (theoretically) make the first, second, fourth and fifth guesses, as long as someone else jumps in for the third.

If you really have nothing to go on from the 20 answers given, I would suggest starting by guessing somebody, ANYBODY, for the first two guesses, and use the warmer/colder hints to zero in on the subject.
