I ruined the game for my team.

I claimed a guilty when I didnt need too
I also retracted into a lost position
I then claimed scum openly

And in none of these things did I ever manage to open a lane of opportunity for either scumteam.

I ruined the game and blew it all for everyone involved. Entirely on me
I think if you didn't retract there a good chance Will dies there
His reaction was epileptic.

But honestly, I think you made the hero play to openly claim and call to coordinate, and we dropped the ball.
Ah boy you should see me when I’m actually mafia

It was not exactly the most balanced setup, but I think the angels literally never doing anything helped town a lot.
It was unclear exactly when action could be taken

I thought perhaps that you would ignite on N4, so it was my thought that we should sneak in a kill power at EoD4 so we can kill off as many town as possible

But you popped it early and then, well, see my earlier post
You mean 3? That's why you were pissed at Chaqa?
No, I wasn't actually pissed at Chaqa. I genuinely thought that was a scum move

Playing town poorly and thereby having an advantage isn't actually being good at either

Historically there have been people who firmly believed this, and played accordingly. I told them to retire from mafia

I'm not saying this is you, I'd just caution against having such an attitude. It's apparently an easy one to develop

I won't argue with the other stuff, but openly outing to negotiate with the other team was the right call, I think.

Thanks Jamiet for running this game. When I red the rules, I felt like the balance was tipped heavily in favor of the Judges. So many killing roles! I think they had some bad luck in that nobody hit Judge Fear, and they should not have ignited early. It was a very well run game!

To give you an idea of the effort we put into this game
Even today we spent four hours today brainstorming how to save fidelis
We had a fake claim ready and poured through multiple ideas

Then we get into the day and basically every member of our team gets scanned by the neverending tide of cops

Not even one mafia this game was caught, cased and eliminated by a townled coalition where mechanics had not already confirmed the person to be mafia

I just want to say one thing before this thread dies: I asked jamie if I could make up my own name, and I'd like to share those. also, jamie, would you have used those names, if I died? my names were:
Boat Y. McBoatface
O. Shawn Gate II

some nautical nonsense, the first is easier to ID than the second, but both were fun. an interesting first game, sad it fizzled at the end there...

No. It's not alright. I hold myself to a higher standard.

I will not GM again in 2024.
No. Stop it. My friend. This was incredible. Warm gushy feelings in your direction. Your integrity here is great, but a couple of tweaks is all it needed. Sorry my life erupted early, or i am sure I would have led the angels to victory.

I was convinced ghug was scum because of how he was simping for DrFidelis.
That is how I felt too.

I think what threw ghug off was that I was too focused on the "six minutes" part of my argument, rather than the fact Dr.Fidelis bothered to throw out a nuanced opinion despite being so overwhelmed that he wasn't participating in the game.

Voting without a justification would have been much more inline with the psychology he was claiming.
Honestly with the judge night chat to help me out I did fine for a first game, even given the poor balancing. The "overwhelmed" part was...eh kinda there, moreso an excuse for me not participating when it was just me going "I'm not reading all that" when there are 6000 POSTS IN 9 GAME PHASES LIKE WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS NORMAL????

They’re new so I will be their defender
What do you mean by their defender?

Like, you will advise town not to chop them because they are a new player, or something else?
I will advocate against them flipping, at least for D1
My life’s work is complete

So after a night's sleep, and a lot of chat in Discord, I'll make some comments.

I acknowledge that the setup worked out as slightly town-sided; the Angel team, in particular, was slightly too weak. But on reflection, and based on a lot of feedback from others, I do not think it is fundamentally broken.

The balance considerations when the setup was designed, assumed a number of things that did not play out in practice, partly due to decisions made by the two scum teams, and partly due to town decisions, as well as some luck.

In particular:

- It was anticipated that the Angel team would try to get a kill D1 and possibly on D2 when the large number of players makes it somewhat easier to spread votes around. In practice they did not do this.

- Judge Fear is a potentially serious threat to both Town and the Angels. Town was somewhat lucky that nobody visited him. Often, a low-posting newbie would be a popular scan target (i.e. Fidelis), but not in this game.

- Both scum teams deciding to holster N1 was somewhat surprising.

Town played well overall and Balki in particular deserves credit for showing leadership when it mattered. I thought Chaqa's scum play was overall very good also.

I will run this again some time in 2025, if permitted, with a number of changes:

- The potential town roles will include a Paranoid Cop as well as a naïve cop. (Paranoid Cop always returns "Guilty" irrespective of the target's actual role or alignment).

- The Angel gang will be given at least one non-conditional kill, potentially by changing the Pa Angel role to be a form of JOAT.

- The Mean Machine Angel mechanics will be revisited.

- Judge Death would be made a standard nightkiller with a kill every night, but no strongman.
