But we know that our subject is an animal, and viruses are not animals.
(No questions for the QM here.)

Well, we don't actually know that from anything the QM has said this round, but I think it's kind of assumed that the real entities have to be animals? I don't know. Would a famous tree be an acceptable target? A robot?
I will give the following information freely: this entity is (or was) carbon-based.

Still no questions for QM, but: remember the hesitation on Eurasia and 1700. I'm guessing this originated in Eurasia after 1700, but not in a way that counts as being born.

Also remember the political/government/military connection.

Yes: this is, was, or once was part of, a plant.

A tree?
No (neither entire tree nor part of a tree).

Famous for involvement in politics, government, or the military?
I'll go with "Yes." here.
This confounds me.

Was this plant a gift or exchange from one nation to another?

We're at 17 questions and I want to call it a night, so I will offer the following comments and hints.

1.

All will be clear soon enough, but I think that you (speaking to a generic 20Q player here on this forum) are more likely to have heard of this entity than several of our recent targets (at least Bardeen, Baron Denning, Perelman, Palma), and the entity is famous for being connected in some way to politics/government (I'll spot you that it's not connected to the military).

This is a correct read of the situation.

3. Some possibilities for the last few questions: determine the country whose politics it had a connection to, or determine the type of plant it was (or was part of).

Rule 2 says conditional questions are counted, but doesn’t forbid conditional guesses.

If the question about “associated with Europe” is no, my free guess is the Chrysanthemum Throne.

Yes (or rather, associated with a European person).

No. You are looking for something singular, not plural.

Wouldn't that have once been part of a tree?
