If you still need another player, I'd be interested, although I'd love a summary of how webdip forum mafia works. I've played in-person mafia, but not this version before.

Great that you're interested. One place to start might be to read a few selections of pages (probably not the whole thing) of the last Game Thread:

This was a small-ish game in terms of player count, and it had a very simple setup.

To summarise, we play by posting in the forum, in a special game thread.

The game is separated into Daytime phases (which typically last 48 hrs), and Night phases (which typically last 24 hrs).

During the Daytime only, everyone casts a vote on who they suspect is Mafia. Players can change their vote as many times as they like, but at the end of the Day, once the timer runs out, whoever has the most votes is removed from the game and their Alignment and Role are revealed. Also during the day, everyone talks. Through discussion, the Town players try to work out who the Mafia are, and the Mafia try (in various ways) to avoid suspicion and cause a "mis-kill" whereby a Town player is voted out.

During the Night, there is no voting, but surviving players may still talk. During the Night, the Mafia players have access to a special hidden chat (usually facilitated using Discord) where they can speak in private. Collectively the Mafia decide who they wish to kill during the night. That person is revealed as dead, and their Alignment and Role are revealed, at the start of the Day (whereupon the Mafia Chat closes for the phase).

Some powers or items give individual players actions which they can take at Night (and, more rarely, during the day). These can involve investigative powers (a "Cop Scan" which reveals a player's alignment to the Cop), healing powers (a "Doc Save" which can save a player from being night-killed by the Mafia) and a range of others.

Participation does require you to be quite active and willing to check the forum several times a day. During Day One of the (small) game linked above, for example, three players each made more than 40 separate posts, and even the least active player made 15 posts. Bear this in mind if you sign up (thanks!).

Also can I request that we delay start until 22 or 23 October? I may or may not have some busy days coming up, that will greatly hinder my attentiveness to the game, to the dissatisfaction of the rest of the players.

Darth... i felt that way at first, too, with a different group. At first I created and deleted accounts as needed. You can also turn off all notifications easily, so it doesn't push into RL.

In that case, I graciously and regrettably withdraw my participation. I think for my own sanity and well-being, I do not need to add another social networking site into my life. Best of luck to you who play, I'll be watching with interest!
