I thought it might be Alex from A Clockwork Orange, but it can't be, because he is the main protagonist of the novel.

Of the 20 novels on that list, nine were written by a European author:
_1984_
_The Time Machine_
_Never Let Me Go_
_Brave New World_
_The Power_
_The Wall_
_We_
_A Clockwork Orange_
_The Drowned World_

Of those nine, _Never Let Me Go_ and _The Power_ were made into TV shows. That leaves seven novels to choose from.
