:oldforum: Ten Commandments :oldforum:

Ⅰ Only binary questions may be asked.

Ⅱ If a binary question does not have a yes-or-no answer, the question master must not count the question.

Ⅲ All other binary questions will be answered and count towards a twenty-question limit, regardless of whether they were designated as 'conditional'.

Ⅳ One guess per person does not count against the total twenty questions, but additional guesses by the same person do.

Ⅴ After all twenty questions are used up, there are no more free guesses, and five total guesses are allowed.

Ⅵ No player shall ask more than two consecutive questions or make more than two consecutive guesses (or a consecutive combination thereof) before another player has asked a question or made a guess.

Ⅶ Before the twentieth question is asked, players who have not yet used their free guess may choose to expend their free guess alongside two consecutive questions.

Ⅷ The question master may should choose entities real or fictional that are not horribly obscure, so long as they are not repeats.

Ⅸ Whoever guesses correctly takes over from the previous question master; if they do not want to do it, they may choose who to pass the duty onto or just give it to the first volunteer.

Ⅹ If the question master remains undefeated three times in a row, on the third time they must either pass it to a person of their choice, or the first volunteer takes over.

So this is either:

1. A real dead woman.
2. A real living man.
3. A fictional man who has died in the paradigm in which he existed.

No. Could be an animal, gendered alien

This is an interesting puzzle way to ask questions. I am impressed, damocles.

It's a very neat approach. I applaud Damo for coming up with it, and I will be very curious to see whether people think it should be the standard opening question from here on out.

The only problem is, after the first two questions, we know nothing.

Suggest ask

Alive?

If yes we know 2 is true,

If no then ask Real?

If yes 1, if no 3

Yeah, the failure mode might be that playing a logic game on top of 20 questions, where you aren't supposed to ask more than 2 in a row, doesn't quite work if no one else buys into your logic game.

Is this a living human?

No.

The logic game has become somewhat tedious, so I am going to short circuit it so that the game can move forward more normally: if you ask about either real or male, you will be able to close the loop and will know all three attributes.

It probably made sense to ask 'real' anyway.

So here goes: real?

Yes.

Through questions 1 and 2, you know that exactly 2 of real/dead/male are true. Through questions 3 and 4, you know that dead (not alive) and real are both true. Therefore, you know that male is not true.

To simplify:

1. [Logic game]
2. [Logic game]
3. [Logic game]
4. Real, dead, not male
