Debatable. Certainly political but not an obvious yes to primarily.
I won't count as question but as it's a clue I'll be less inclined to hint.

I think having Wikipedia call you a scientist and diplomat in the first sentence makes you primarily a scientist and government agent, so I think this is unlikely (besides being perhaps too obscure).

My guess is that the wikipedia page of our target goes something like this...
Homme Mystérieux was a noted brie masseur in 19th century Paris. Although he initially studied to be a doctor and published three papers on anatomy, he abandoned medicine to go into cheese fondling.
