Can someone point me to the posts that indicate this is an animal of some kind?
Well, it's not a human, and it's not a robot, computer, AI, etc.
So "some kind of animal" is all that's really left, wouldn't you say?

If it's a coffee table, or a pack of crayons, or a jar of fucking mustard, I will cry foul.
ahem.. I pointed out the possibility of it being a plant.
Could it be something from this?

Sci-fi/fantasy creatures that are more concepts, e.g.: the Nothing from the Neverending Story, the great evil from Fifth Element, or even things like the tar monster that kills Tasha Yar in Star Trek:TNG.
This is a useful thought.

Oh yes a plant possibly.

I don't think it would be from "George of the Jungle" because wasn't that mostly aimed at children? We know that our TV series was not aimed primarily at children.

it's impossible to be sure
It is possible to be sure. It's just that I could correctly answer in both the affirmative and negative.
It could be shapeshifting except it also doesn't have magical powers

OK, I said "try to think broader", but don't think that far out of the box!

Perhaps it’s an extinct animal. Dinosaur.

Can you think of a TV character that is a dinosaur of no specific species, and which has no identifiable gender?

Barney is played by an actor in a costume, so it can't be Barney.
Plus isn't Barney male?

Sorry that I can't provide hints. The scene with this entity is extremely famous and many of you probably know the dialogue in the scene from memory.
This is the biggest clue we have.

But can't be ET or HAL or Roy Batty.

Famous scenes with hairless non-human non-robot gender unidentifiables?

Five guesses, folks!

I'll give it away if five users give up.

I don't think there are five users guessing...

I realized where we went wrong. Should have asked "Does this character have a physical body?"

Are obviously incorrect guesses also counted a guesses? Otherwise we're never going to finish this game.

I will start with an obviously wrong answer: Baby Sinclair from Dinosaurs.

Never? Did JECE remove the last guess time limit rule? Ah...

I would guess, but none of my ideas still match the answers. Bender and Dr Zoidberg have both been women, but the film questions seems to rule them out. (Bender also ruled out by the robot question, obviously)

But, for the sake of ending the game and on the off chance that in an obscure film someone was watching an episodes of Futurama on telly...

Is it Dr Zoidberg?
