Were any of the works in which the character appears nominated for a Hugo Award, Nebula Award, World Fantasy Award, or Locus Award?

(Technically, authors are nominated, but what I mean here is: was the author nominated for any of those awards for the work in which the character appears)

Are there any comic book character that have appeared in novels? I'm not sure where else that distinction could come from.

I'd like to specify this is not an official question, just a suggestion for the class.

Short stories, possibly. A lot of fantasy authors in that time period started in short stories and then move on to novels.

It's a little complicated, but I will just say the character did not appear in a novel before 1980
Ah...*puts down his list of 1970s fantasy novels*...okay. *Picks of lists of 1980s fantasy novels.*

1. Not real
2. Male
3. Not primarily from video-based media (movie, tv, video game)
4. First appeared in a novel before 1990
5. From a work of Fantasy* (personally I don't feel this needs an asterisk)
6. Human
7. First appeared in a novel after January 1, 1970
8. Appeared in more than one novel
9. First appeared in a novel after January 1, 1980
10. Author nominated for a Hugo Award, Nebula Award, World Fantasy Award, or Locus Award for a work containing this character.

In the novel in which he first appears, is he younger than the age of 23 for the majority of the book?

While not explicitly stated, I feel safe saying no.

I kind of feel like narrowing the publication date of the first novel in which he appeared. Seems like the most efficient way to get there. What do y'all think about that?

I'm fine with this. We're on question 11, we have time...

We've got plenty of questions, but I don't think we should take more than 2-3 get narrow this down?

Does the story the character appears in take place in our world?

If so: My free guess is Alvin Maker.

We already have that he first appeared in a novel from 1980-1989. Maybe we should try and figure out more about his prior non-novel appearances that Chaqa has implied do exist.

Did this character appear in a novel published before January 1, 1986?

Yes, with two caveats:
- I am interpreting *the story* to mean *the full story*
- It need not take place *exclusively* or *primarily* in our world

11. Older than 23 for the majority of his first novel appearance.
12. Story takes place in our world at least somewhat
13. Appeared in a novel before January 1, 1986

If you still want to make your guess, let me know, Fox.
