Anyway the only "Jack Harper" I can find who is involved in music, is a singer and piano player, so I don't know what that was meant to refer to at all, Damo.
It was a joke. Jack Harper was a character in the sitcom On The Buses. He was, of course, a bus conductor.
Ahahahaha

I asked a Russian aqcuaintance who is a professional painter for help. Let's see if she has any ideas.

That power is not in the rules and I don't feel comfortable of this power grab.

I would like to scream 'VETO' into you ears, though I don't had any specific veto power given.

I will however voice my concerns about it since this game was never about time. If however the majority of (current) player do support damo's change, I will not stand against it.

I'm not sure what's going to happen in the next 24 hours that didn't happen in the last 48...

damo is fine doing this... it is not a new precedent. It is a fun/silly game. As the questionmaster of this round, he can surely say, 'enough is enough.' Especially if the guessers have all fallen asleep.

I support Damo's time limit.

I would like a slightly longer time limit I think.

Remember, he was a musician! A painter or a musician who was not a painter must therefore have been a musician.
Associated with music. He doesn't play an instrument and he's not a vocalist, and he is not primarily a composer.
maybe a DJ or some thing like that?
I was thinking along the lines of something like a music producer or executive, but couldn't find one who fit the bill.

Leon Theremin was interesting, but he died in Russia and also might be considered an engineer.

I also think that the proposed 24-hour time limit is too short.

We got a pretty huge hint with the Wikipedia pages. This is definitely solvable.

What if it's some kind of patron of the arts? Some rich person who sponsors musicians and artists but is not a musician or artist themselves?

Associated with music, yes, but also a musician himself. See the information already given:

Not a painter [as far as I can ascertain] but strongly associated with painters and painting.
Granted, that could just mean that he composed music, and we already know that he composed music.

@Damo:

Can you just clarify, would this person be reasonably described as "a musician" - given the potentially conflicting answers noted in the post above?

Other than what I have already said, no.

Wikipedia does not describe him as a musician

More than 1,700 pages link to Marc Chagall. So multiply that by however many people have been mentioned in the thread who have wikipedia pages, and that'll give you an idea of how many you have to sort through to brute force this.

It should either be a hard time limit or a limited number of guesses. But it's already been open season for 8+ hours and nobody has put forth a guess, so I don't understand why we're asking for more time when we're not using the extra that has already been given.

Oh.

Then, with respect, this answer is very misleading:

...given you then went on to say he's not a painter.

I would not have asked the "vocalist?" question if you had been clear that he was not a musician. Your answer to Supi13 (in the context of your later answer that he's not a painter) appeared to state that he was some kind of musician.

Because you've basically told us he is a painter or musician who isn't a painter or a musician.

Because it said "including a music composer" but I appreciate your point so have an extra question.
