Thanks for summarising! One minor correction - Damo asked if the film was released "after 1979" and the answer was "no" - so a film released in the year 1979 specifically would be in-scope for this question.

1960 to 1979 (inclusive) is the date range we have to work with.

We're looking for a US-made comedy movie, set on earth, released between 1960 and 1979, not based on a book. Our character is a good guy, played by an actor who never won an Oscar. The character does not feature in any other films. He would not have celebrated halloween.

Yes

I'd say willy wonka, but there were two ww films.

Really struggling to see any movies from this list that didn't have sequels or remakes that would have stood the test of time enough to have characters that were noteworthy enough to still be widely memorable. This one may be beyond my movie knowledge.
