If Byz was scum, and expecting only to be in scumchat at night, then being told night posting was a thing could have thrown him for a loop. His time-inability (or expectations to forum post combined with the wagon on him before the end of day 1, he might have panicked and worried that his absence would be AI.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but is it permissible for a non-role townie to be largely absent for the night phase? Couldn’t he have just said “I don’t have time to post in the night phase becauuse RL, I’ll see you at the next daytime”?

But he didn’t.

He definitely could have, but I also think it’s completely fair for him to look at his situation and go “shit, I’m clearly not keeping pace and overextended, I need to cut out of one of these games” and sub out of the one on the foreign site and play out his games closer to home.

As for general “permissibility,” I think the general consensus is that people post as much as they’re able to do so constructively, no matter the phase, and that night activity, while perhaps being townie-indicative on paper (since mafia will be splitting attention between the thread and a Discord chat), isn’t really townie-indicative in practice. It’s far more of a player thing than a role thing if that makes sense. If you’re gone you’re gone, maybe you’re just slacking, maybe you had something going on, maybe you needed a mental break! That last one is a common reason some people aren’t active at nights and makes a lot of sense.

All that to say that while I’m reasonably certain Byz/snowy is mafia, I don’t take a lot from the replacement per se.

I think we should give snowy an independent chance to prove the nature of their own slot and not base the reads on the slot on another player who was admittedly busy and clearly overwhelmed by the activity and expectations in this game and unready to balance it with other commitments.

I can vibe with that feeling too, joining a game because you want to play with a friend and immediately falling behind and feeling overwhelmed by other commitments

I don’t mind giving snowy a shot obviously, but I don’t think the fact that Byz was too busy to continue means that we should throw out the suspicious things he did here when he had time to participate.

I do think the substitution itself is non-indicative here though.

Certainly I suppose, ig I'm used to playing in a community where the norm is to throw out any previous info on a sub and let them prove themself individually. But I also suppose maybe that isn't the opportune way to play.
