Gerald Ford? (connected to Watergate via his pardon of Nixon)
Gerald Ford held more than one political office so it couldn't be him anyway.

Hmm. This would mean that he was not a prominent lawyer or legal professor and would rule out Archibald Cox, Leon Jaworski, and Charles Ruff.

Question: Was this person a Special Prosecutor at any point during the Watergate scancal and its aftermath?

That's a requirement not a disqualifier.

Ah sorry yes, I mis-read.

I interpreted that question as "known for something other than politics" (especially since you hadn't yet named a more specific career within politics) with known for doing a fair amount of work.

He's held more than one position in his life, and some of them were outside of politics, but he's not noteworthy for them: politics is the sole reason he has a Wikipedia article. I would answer that question the same way for Obama or Ford, but not for Reagan or Trump (film actor and professional media clown respectively).

On that note though, the hint I planned to give at 10 questions was that I think he's best known for two events. The first was in Watergate, the second came later and was IMO less noteworthy on the whole, but is probably more in the public consciousness.

0 American politics
1 dead
2 watergate
3 Republican
4 not a senator
5 not known for other careers
6 known for holding more than one office
7 not convicted for watergate
8 nor indicted
9 worked for DoJ
10 was never a special prosecutor for Watergate

Wrong guesses: Mitchell, Liddy, Ford, Richardson

Does his surname have four or fewer letters?

I hate to burn a guess for the (dis)benefit of everyone else, but:

Robert Bork?

Would this person have been considered on Nixon's side?

Robert the Bork! Known for the Saturday Night Massacre and the verb "to bork." I was on the fence about doing the Bork or the Bruce, and then someone else did the Bruce anyway.
