I've had my free guess but someone else might like to have a go at Sir John Anthony Quayle. He meets all the criteria but I don't think he'd pass the 50% dart test tbh.

Also meeting the criteria but not super well-known are Daniel Massey, and possibly Cecil Kellaway.

I don't recall seeing a reference to darts in the latest interpretation of the rules. A Wikipedia article is now the suggested benchmark... which is pretty much half the population of the planet these days. Even I have a mention on it in some dusty corner.

Is it Sir John Anthony Quayle not the Bruce?

Regarding the "well known" ness I doubt there are many on here who have not heard him.

With the info to hand it is easy to come up with a finite list (about half an hour's work at a guess).

I believe there is still one question remaining.

JH has 2 things in common with the target which none of the other guesses have.

Assuming one of those things is that he actually won, we can narrow down the list to:

Donald Crisp
George Sanders
Hugh Griffith

I have never heard of any of them.

I’ll go with Hugh Griffith then as a random stolen free guess.
