I have narrowed it to two, so I'll use both as two questions

1. Is it JFK?
2. Is it Franklin Pierce?
No.
No.

So what we've narrowed down is:
1. Can't be a 20th century president (the only one who died more than 50 years ago and wasn't born in the 1800's is JFK, and Caroline is still alive).
2. Can't be a 19th century president who lived into the 1900's. This means it has to be #21 Chester Arthur, or before.
3. Can't be any of presidents #18-21, all of whom were officers in the Civil War: Arthur, Garfield, Hayes, Grant.
4. Can't be Washington, who didn't live past 1799.
5. So we're down to presidents #2-17, but not Lincoln.
6. Not #15 Buchanan, #11 Polk, nor #4 Madison, who had no children.

Of the ones it can be, the most famous is Thomas Jefferson, so I'll guess him.
Thomas Jefferson is correct!
Congratulations!

I was thinking of doing James Madison, but that 50% of darts thing is a problem...

I was fixed on the interpretation of 'alive after 1799' as 'exclusively'.

Sorry if I steered you wrong. I was trying to simplify the answer to damo666's question:

"Was he alive at any point 1800 onwards?"

Yes. He owned more than 600 slaves. He kept his late wife's half-sister as a slave, and began regularly using for sex when she was 14 years old. He fathered at least one child with her, and possibly up to six, while still maintaining her status as his slave.

Fuck that guy.

Seriously. A 14-year old female slave cannot meaningfully consent to sex with a 44-year-old plantation owner who fucking owns her. The power imbalance between them is utterly extreme. Therefore he was a rapist.
