ocarina of time is so bad. It's the Chrono trigger of Adventure games. Just basic and uninteresting but everyone played it as kids and didn't get to play the YS games so we have to pretend it's actually in the running for best game of all time.
Ocarina of Time by itself is a pretty basic but epic swashbuckler adventure. (And one of the first which makes it stand out)
But what makes it a masterpiece is when you include Majoras Mask as a two game parter.

You need Ocarina of Time as a base for Majoras Mask to work. But the combo is just perfect.

Most of the games you've mentioned I've never heard of haha. I'll look into them one day!

I'm not really an RPG guy but I really liked FE:3H
Three Houses was exactly the hit that FE neded.

Switch is having a second RPG rennesance with FE, Triangle strategy, Xenoblade, and Octopath

Doom, traditional turn based, strategy, or action?
That's impossible, ugh!

But I've played every single Fire Emblem, and most of the other big strategy classics, so probably that, than action, than turn based. Cause there's a lot of turn based games out there that, oof.

How about y'all?
Strategy, Turn, and then Action overall

BUT

The top list for me is (Just RPGs)

FF6
Morrowind
FFT
Lunar 1
FF7
Front Mission 3
New Vegas
Vanguard Bandits
Chrono Trigger
Disgaea 2
SMT: Digital Devil Saga
List of Doom

Vampire Masquerade, Bloodlines (it's incredible, oh my god)
YS 8
Devil Survivor 1
Let us Cling Together
Digital Devil Saga
Shin Megami Tesnei I
Fire Emblem 4 (for story)
Fire Emblem 5 (for gameplay)
Fire Emblem 10 (both)
Castlevania Order of Ecclesia (if that counts?)

I enjoyed all the Fire Emblem games until Awakening and then I wanted nothing to do with them. (I even got the Japanese exclusive ones, Fire Emblem 4 is basically Game of Thrones and it's story was insane for it's time. I really enjoyed it)

3H looks like it might actually be good though.

It was just unbelievable that every single relationship was voice lined.
I don't play a lot of RPGs but I used to watch a lot of let's plays and I've never seen the like

Ok Doom, the fact you enjoy Fire Emblem 5 redeems you in my eyes from your bad Chrono Trigger opinion.

You're only the second person I've ever found who has played it (outside of Fire Emblem forums)

my fellow FE boomer

I recognize FE probably had to go the direction it did to continue surviving and thriving as a franchise, but the days of Eliwood are so long gone

Oh yeah, you deserve it to yourself to try it.

Just.... Umm... Don't be me with it.

Spent 100 hours on first playthrough in 2 weeks. And it has four playthroughs.... It's a lot of busy work that should probably skip, but is pretty great.

Aww, I thought you loved me!

Get a spine and play some more or don’t. This game isn’t for everyone.

Awakening is one of my most hated games. The fact everyone says Awakening is great is a big part why I do not trust Chrono Trigger will get better.

FF5 is my favorite FF

I won't call it the best (I think FF6 takes that mark) but I never catch myself replaying an FF quite like I do 5

I couldn't even tell you why really, I think on paper it should be behind some others, but it just does everything it set out to do perfectly

Yeah, I understand Awakening literally revived the franchise and the old style wasn't going to work anymore.
But I have no interest in dating the characters as a self insert avatar.

Heyyy, now - the game has ended and your (our) team won.
Yes but his stubborn tunnel on me would have cost us the game had they both continued.
Pretty sure I voted for the last scum…

I could even handle dating them if every single scene felt like the characters turning to me, the player, and saying "Do you want to Fuck me?" It's bad enough with the main cast, but when they're 11 years old, I just couldn't.
