I'm mortified that I have anywhere from 2x-4x the amount of posts that would be remotely appropriate for a game of mafia and ended up in 3rd place

What is wrong with us

And yet somehow I set the record in a game that wasn't this one.

Lol. Those tears of mine were real. But doom was my strongest townread.
I feel like Chrono Trigger flips all the tropes of the average RPG at the time and that was what made it so good. It started off seeming like any other RPG with a silent protagonist. I went in completely blind and was consistently surprised by what came next. I also adored there being no random encounters. They even deconstruct the idea of a silent protagonist in videogames and it was like wtf.

I've been out of the loop in gaming culture since the gamecube probably, but I did play Undertale and again that one was really good because it flipped the tropes you'd expect. And I replayed Chrono Trigger only around 5 years ago and it still holds up.
Yes!! Undertale is the first RPG I’ve played in years. It’s very good. Maybe that’s why chrono doesn’t register is that many games tried to emulate it. So it doesn’t seem original anymore.
I think the genre as a whole might just be pretty outdated? At least the genre Chrono Trigger is critiquing. (Final Fantasy was the most famous RPG and has long since changed it's genre)

A) Undertale rocks, yeah. V. Fun indie game
B)WTF, no, Undertale isn't cribbing from Chronotrigher. Don't even need to finish the game to know that
C)Chrono is just... To basic? Like, I don't like the basic SNES JRPG (there's plenty of great ones, but I don't like the basic ones) and Chrono trigger just felt like a water downed version of those.
D) ocarina of time is so bad. It's the Chrono trigger of Adventure games. Just basic and uninteresting but everyone played it as kids and didn't get to play the YS games so we have to pretend it's actually in the running for best game of all time.

Shin Megami tensei is right there if you want an actual fun and interesting JRPG critique. All your friends are evil and America drops the nuke. What's not to love.

A lot of the "greatest of all time" games from the 90s and early 00s end up massively showing their age as things progress. It's the nerd equivalent of glorifying sports stars from the 50s and 60s. Most of those 90s-00s era games are more relevant for what they represented in their time rather than how well they objectively stand up to decades of development.

SMT 1 is actually v funny in how it hits every single JRPG cliche, but makes it amazing by just doing it in the real world. Silent protag from a destroyed city that has to kill God. Just, a lot more literal

I spent a week doing nothing while I waited to take a covid test.

The rest of the time, I don't know what to tell you. My job is really easy I guess?

Also our PRs played great snowy you crazy

worcej got a great docsave to give us our miskill back after we tied (lol)

Chaqa caught Tom and whatever people might think about the inevitability of that kill, it brought a lot of clarity to D2 (our inability to take advantage of that clarity isn't his fault)

TFB's choices were understandable, it was unfortunate that he scanned Bona on the night Bona got docsaved

...I don't actually know who the Oracle is  but I'm sure they were great

And Bunny's claim was very well executed and ultimately got a mafia out, even if you want to put most of the blame on that on jasnah
Kgray was the Oracle, just for the record.

That's impossible, ugh!

But I've played every single Fire Emblem, and most of the other big strategy classics, so probably that, than action, than turn based. Cause there's a lot of turn based games out there that, oof.

How about y'all?
