The year is 1975 in the United States. Watergate is wrapping up with further convictions for former President Nixon’s aides. The Vietnam War ends. The first major blockbuster Jaws is released. Bruce Springsteen releases Born to Run. Microsoft is created. And Evel Knievel. And racing motorcycles. And the undertow of the Satanic Panic that would grip the United States for at least a decade. The Six Million Dollar Man tops the television ratings. The first major blockbuster Jaws is released. And a long-forgotten drive-in B movie starring Peter Fonda, Warren Oates, and Loretta Switt called Race WIth the Devil is released.

It’s been a busy racing season so together with friends you pack up the RV, motorcycle trailer, and hit the road through Texas on the way to Aspen, Colorado. TIme for some rest and relaxation with some skiing in the Rocky Mountains.

After a long day of driving the group finds a desolate meadow to camp on overnight. Some fun racing bikes around, followed with a good meal, some drinks, and the sun gives way to the moon and a calm dark.

The group begins to retire to the RV. You walk to the edge of the meadow for one last pee while finishing that drink. As you look passively ahead you catch what you think might be a glimmer of light. Another fire in the distance? Against your better judgement, tired and a little drunk, you head towards the glow. As you get closer you can make out a large bonfire with a number of robed figures walking in a circular formation. A closer look exposes a naked woman bound to a wooden structure with a taller robed figure circling her within the larger circle. Whoa! Is this an orgy? Ah...life in the 70s, man! The chanting from the group is mesmerizing.

Suddenly the larger figure raises what appears to be a knife and stabs the woman in the heart. She screams while the chant explodes into what you think you hear as “Hail Satan! Hail Satan!” Your shock gives way to a loud gasp; audible to the group. Heads turn toward your direction and the figures begin to move your way. You turn and run as fast as you can, back to the RV.

Jumping inside you yell, “We gotta go! We gotta get the hell out of here!”

Fun fact: Evel Knievel (Born Robert Craig Knievel) got his nickname after spending a night in jail next to the well-known William 'Awful' Knofel. The jailer made a joke about 'Awful Knofel' and 'Evil Knievel' and Evel decided to keep the name.
