So for the record, nothing about my aggression was fake. It's frustrating when people don't remember pronouns, but we all make mistakes. What's absolutely infuriating is the dismissive responses to being corrected and the comments that show a general lack of respect and acceptance for other people. We need to be better.
Eh, for what it's worth I do think some patience is necessary and bystanders need to not get involved when someone messes up.

We're not a bunch of malicious people trying to be intentionally rude. Hell, it's taken us quite awhile to phase the L word out...
I was perfectly patient and I made it very clear that my issue with this particular incident was not the mistake in the first place, but how the correction was received.

Asking bystanders to not get involved is absolutely not the right call. That just puts the burden of correction on the person who is being wronged and can make them feel marginalized and unwelcome. And I'm not trying to speak for Macca here specifically, I don't want to put words in their mouth and I don't know how they feel about this. But in general, I don't know how you think things are going to change if mistakes aren't called out, and it's completely unfair to say that only the person who is directly involved should say anything. It's actually more important that other people say something.

The reason we were able to phase the L word out was aggressive corrections from bystanders.
... and here I was thinking it was my gentle, understanding, kind nature... :-)

By the way, Dargo, you said you changed the flavour last minute ... what was the planned ghug flavour?
I'm not telling... I'll save the original flavour for another game that happens to end with the same players.
ugh, but I don't want to wait 4 years for that ...

Jamie and I end up in like 60% of the endgames, so you're part of the way there.

I'll respectfully disagree with your point on this.

When it comes to what someone would like to be referred to, it is explicitly up to that person to correct someone politely, especially in a forum setting where the statement of change can be buried.

In the case of Macca, from what I could tell, no one intentionally belittled or has unwelcomed Macca in any way and are being respectful once they are aware of the non-binary choice. To have someone, in the case it was Jamie, be chastised for his mistake was absolutely unnecessary and unwarranted and I feel he was justified in informing the bystander (in this case you) that you didn't need to come at him how you did, albeit he did it not in that way but the message was there.

The L word was done with friendly reminders. Your response to Jamie was beyond that, thus my statement on patience and bystanders.

fucking ghug and his flapping lips
Can't tell if this is claiming an action or an insult. Since it's ghug I'll assume the first, in which case, my condolences about the teeth.
