How does rule 7 work with choosing roles?

Do you have to choose the role that is most likely leading to your win?
Are you allowed to choose a role for fun that you think is making it harder for you to win?

Rule 7 does not imply optimal.

If you have vanilla and PR of same faction, for example, you could argue the optimal choice is PR but choosing VT would not be not playing to win.

Don't be silly.

You don't have a win condition at all, until you've picked a card.

The Role Allocation phase lasts 24 hours. You'll have time to get some sleep, wake up, shower, and have a strong coffee, before you need to pick a card, if you're worried.
