716 AD Charles Martel is defeated by the Neustrians in the battle of Cologne (his only defeat); he will have his revenge later in the year at the battle of Ambleve and remain undefeated for the next 25 years, until his death, that is.

718 is the area code for Brooklyn and the Bronx.

Speaking of that acquisition, certainly among the worst in history. Turned Boeing off the path of being an innovative engineering company in the Pacific Northwest with a great culture into a terrible MBA run company that happened to make airplanes that had its best facilities in Seattle, its decision makers in Chicago, its lines for their newest and most important wide-body plane in South Carolina and for engineering judgment to get pushed by the wayside in the name of shareholder value (of course McDonnell Douglas's culture taking over Boeing's wasn't the only issue, but it was a big one imo)

Τhis one has a unique feature though, it has three engines.

728 AD King Liutprand of the Lombards occupies all of the Exarchate of Ravenna and advances towards Rome along the Via Cassia where he meets, at the city of Sutri, Pope Gregory II, near the borders of the Duchy of Rome. Liutprand signs the Donation of Sutri, by which parts of Latium are given to the papacy. This marks the historical foundation of the Papal States which were to last for more than 1000 years.

Unit 731, short for "Manshu Detachment 731", was a covert biological and chemical warfare research and development unit of the Imperial Japanese Army that undertook lethal human experimentation during the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937–1945) of World War II. It was responsible for some of the most notorious war crimes carried out by Imperial Japan.

732 AD In October, the Frankish and Burgundian forces under Charles Martel defeat a large army under Abdul Rahman Al Ghafiqi, emir of Al- Andalus, near Poitiers; Rahman Al Ghafiqi is killed during the battle. Charles extends his authority in the south of France, which gives him the nickname Martellus ("The Hammer"). This battle, along with the defeat of Arabic forces in front of Constantinople's walls in 717, marks the halt of the Islamic expansion that had been going on for a century.
