870 AD On December 31, instead of a new year's celebration,The Vikings clash with ealdorman Æthelwulf of Berkshire. The invaders are driven back to Reading; many of the Danes (including one of the earls named Sidrac) are killed.
December 31st did not mark the end of the year then. March 25th did.
I know it, the remark was in a jest. Even if it was New Year's Eve, raiding armies have no holidays!

875 is 126 numbers lowr than the number we should have.

876-5309 was NOT Jenny’s telephone number. Apparently it was so often mis-dialed by people looking for Jenny that people with this number could apply to their local telephone company and request a free change of number.

Can we post two or more updates until we get the post count and count in symmetry?

877 - Charles the Bald dies

878 - cakes may or may not have been burnt.

879 - Charles the simple is born

880 - Louis the Blind was born. He wasn’t born blind, he had his eyes gouged out for breaking an oath. A lesson to all diplomacy players

881 - is a comedy drama film.

882 - Louis the younger dies. He was the middle son of Louis the German and Emma.

Was not expecting so many numbers in one post, but since I have been waiting for months, here is an addendum for 880: The musical note A5 has a frequency of 880 Hz, and is one octave above the standard tuning note for orchestras, A4, at 440 Hz.

You’ve waited months to post about the number 880? Sorry for stealing your thunder I guess.

889 - Boris I abdicates and Donald II comes to the throne. In different countries.

890 - the village of Kirby Muxloe was founded

891 - Pope Stephen V dies. He ruled that Christian slaves that had been mutilated by their Muslim owners could still be priests. A ruling that has never been rescinded.

892 - not much happened and no one I’ve ever heard of was born or died so I’ll hand over to Damo to see if there is anything interesting about this number.

892 is the lowest number greater than the lowest octahedral number that is the sum of 5 consecutive primes (891). Bit weak but the best I can do.

You missed some juicy details!

"893. Boris reemerged from retirement, put down the revolt, deposed and blinded his son, and made the Slavonic liturgy general in its application. The capital was moved to Preslav. Boris then returned to his monastery, where he died (907)."

My source says otherwise.

This interesting thing happened:
"Alfred proceeded to organize the defense of his kingdom. London was walled and garrisoned, with burghers charged with its defense. Earth forts (burhs) of the Viking type were thrown up and garrisoned. The fyrd (army of foot soldiers) and the fleet were reorganized, the army increased, the thegns (thanes) began to be used as a mounted infantry. All citizens of the requisite wealth were forced into thegn-hood—to join the military class attached to the royal household. A Danish reaction (892–96) was firmly suppressed."

And somebody important died:
892. Death of Ahmad al-Baladhuri, the author of an important biographical dictionary (Ansab al-ashraf) and a history of the Muslim conquests (Futuh al-buldan).

894 - Interstate Highway in Milwaukee County

895 - Charles the straightforward flees to Germany

896 - "I Love You" in number code

897 - 12 year old Daigo becomes the 60th Emperor of Japan

(897 - 12 year old Daigo becomes the 60th Emperor of Japan…) I am not THAT old!

The Ducati 899 Panigale is a 898 cc (54.8 cu in) sport bike from Ducati, released in 2013 to replace the 848.

900 AD… Edward the Elder was crowned king of England, even though technically, he was not, yet.

901 Memphis, Tennessee, USA’s telephonal area code digits.

902 An Anglo-Saxon army was beaten by a Viking army fighting under the command of Aethelwold (Son of later King Aethelred I.) During the battle Aethelwold dies, which ended his hope of a revolt against Edward the Elder. (See above)

903 Brewers (of Sherman, Texas) makes a mess of interesting beers. Including, apparently, a Cap’n Crunch Beer. Which I assume one drinks for breakfast.

908 3 year oldConstantine VII is crowded ruler of Byzantine empire

909 - The last Long Count date is inscribed on a monument at the Mayan site of Toniná (modern-day Chiapas, Mexico), marking the end of the Classic Maya Period.

910 - Pope John XI was born

911 - it’s odd that we’ve reached 911 today on the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. 911 is also a model of Porsche and the emergency number people call in North America.

912 AD Emperor Leo VI the Wise, dies after a 26-year reign in which he has completed the Byzantine code of laws. He is succeeded by his brother Alexander III as emperor alongside Leo's 6-year-old son Constantine VII. Alexander becomes de facto ruler of the Byzantine Empire and expels Empress Zoe Karbonopsina (for whose marriage to Leo has been a turmoil for years) the mother of Constantine, from the palace and exiles her to a nunnery. This doesn’t last for long.
913 AD Emperor Alexander III dies of exhaustion. He is succeeded by 8-year-old Constantine VII. The government is administered by a regency council composed of Constantine's mother, Empress Zoe Karbonopsina, Patriarch Nicholas Mystikos (a saint of the Orthodox Church) and his guardian John Eladas.
914 AD Empress Zoe Karbonopsina leads a palace coup at Constantinople and overthrows, with the support of the magistros John Eladas, Patriarch Nicholas Mystikos as regent over her son. She allows Nicholas to remain as patriarch though because even she recognizes his holiness.
915 AD Pope John X crowns the Italian sovereign Berengar I as the Holy Roman Emperor in Rome. Berengar returns to northern Italy, where Friuli is threatened by the Hungarians.

917 AD Bulgarian Czar Simeon defeats the Byzantines and threatens Constantinople. At the same time, he puts a prince of his choosing to the Serbian throne making Serbia a puppet state.

918 AD King Conrad I, injured at one of his battles with Arnulf I the Bad, dies at his residence in Weilburg Castle after a 7-year reign.

919 AD Romanos Lekapenos is named head of the imperial guard. Lekapenos consolidates his position and becomes regent of Emperor Constantine VII. He marries his 9-year-old daughter Helena Lekapene to Constantine and assumes the new title of basileopator (the second higher rank after the Emperor himself a title made especially for Romanos).

920 Romans is crowned co-emperor and he is the de facto ruler.
