Being the 1st of January, this is an event in 1503. Lovely new year gift for his allies!

1503 James IV of Scotland and Margaret Tudor are married as per the Treaty of Perpetual Peace by Pope Alexander VI, according to the Papal bull. The marriage is held in London and repeated in August in Scotland!

1505 AD, Spanish explorer Juan de Bermúdez discovers a new island. Lacking any imagination he names it after himself, Bermuda.
At the same time, the first pocket watch is made in Europe (irrelevant but I love pocket watches).

1507 AD Martin Waldseemüller publishes his Cosmographiae Introductio ("Introduction to Universal Cosmography"), where he is the first to show America as a separate continent, naming it in honour of Amerigo Vespucci, a name that was accepted (well, better than to call the whole continent Colombia).

1510 was the year of death of Alessandro di Mariano di Vanni Filipepi (commonly known as Botticelli).

His most famous work is probably The Birth of Venus by courtesy of Monty Python's Flying Circus.

No wonder he went for another name.

Article 1511 of the Greek Civil code is about the custody of children in general and in the case of a divorce.

Gene ID 1513: Also known as
CTSO; PKND; PYCD; CTS02; CTSO1; CTSO2
Summary
The protein encoded by this gene is a lysosomal cysteine proteinase involved in bone remodeling and resorption. This protein, which is a member of the peptidase C1 protein family, is predominantly expressed in osteoclasts. However, the encoded protein is also expressed in a significant fraction of human breast cancers, where it could contribute to tumor invasiveness. Mutations in this gene are the cause of pycnodysostosis, an autosomal recessive disease characterized by osteosclerosis and short stature.

1518 AD A Dancing plague erupts. A case of dancing mania breaks out in Strasbourg, in which many people die from constant dancing. Even today, scientists are not entirely sure what was causing these plagues. There were many in the medieval and later centuries, with Strasbourg's being the most documented in contemporary sources.

1520 AD, Pope Leo X issues the bull Exsurge Domine (Arise O Lord), threatening Martin Luther with ex-communication if he does not recant his position on indulgences and other Catholic doctrines. This is the first step in the schism of the Romeo catholic Church.
