1252

Pope Innocent IV issues the papal bull "Ad exstirpanda", which authorises the torture of heretics in the Medieval Inquisition. Torture quickly gains widespread usage across Catholic Europe.

1253

Henry III meets with the nobles and church leaders to reaffirm the validity of the Magna Carta in exchange for the right of taxation.

1254

Doge Reniero Zeno sends the Horses of Saint Mark, looted from Constantinople (see 1204), to Venice, where they are installed on the terrace of the façade of St. Mark's Basilica. Having visited St Marks - they are actually magnificent works of art. I'm pretty sure the Byzantines would've been pissed off about that.

1262 AD Castilian-Leonese forces led by Alfonso X (the Wise) conquer Cádiz, the city is under Moorish rule since 711. The Muslims are ousted, and Alfonso repopulates the region. Though a major victory is far from the end purpose. The Reconquista has far to go yet.

1263 King Alfonso X conquers Niebla from the Moors – terminating any Muslim presence in the western region of Spain.
