The 996 working hour system is a work schedule practiced by some companies in the People's Republic of China. It derives its name from its requirement that employees work from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm, 6 days per week; i.e. 72 hours per week. A number of Mainland Chinese internet companies have adopted this system as their official work schedule. Critics argue that the 996 working hour system is a violation of Chinese law and have called it "modern slavery."

In March 2019 an "anti-996" protest was launched. 996 was deemed illegal by China's Supreme People's Court on 27 August 2021.

1001 cleans a big big carpet for less than half a crown.

Older UK readers will recognise this as an advertising slogan for a cleaning product named 1001.

1002 AD Emperor Otto III dies, at the age of 22, of smallpox at Castle of Paterno (near Rome) after a 19-year reign (yes he was crowned at the age of approximately 3!). He leaves no son, nor a surviving brother who can succeed by hereditary right to the throne.

1003 AD Pope Sylvester II dies after a 4-year pontificate. He is succeeded by John XVII as the 140th pope of the Catholic Church who will die seven months later!

1004 ΑD Vasilios the II defeats the Bulgars in a decisive victory, yet it will take another one ten years later to bring Bulgaria to its knees.

1005 AD Saint Nilus dies on December 27, he's venerated as a saint from both Orthodox and Catholic churches.

1006 The brightest supernova ever recorded, SN 1006, occurs in the constellation of Lupus. It was observed and described in China, Japan, Iraq, Egypt, and Europe and possibly depicted in North American rock art. The supernova provided enough light to read by on a night with a dark moon.

1007- The Book of Kells is stolen from the Abbey of Kells, but they stubbornly refused to change their name.
1008- The Uniform Underwriting and Transmittal Summary Form 1008 summarizes key data from the loan application package. Lenders use this information in reaching the underwriting decision. Form 1008 (or a similar document) must be retained in the mortgage file for manually underwritten mortgage loans.
1009-a piece by Bonobo, on their Black Sands album.
1010- the binary form of the decimal number 10.
1011- the binary form of the decimal number 11… which, while mathematically obvious, is still kind of cool in an interesting way, in the light of 1010.

(some of us are trying to catch the 'number' up to the 'post number.' )

1012- Aethelred (the Unready) resumed paying the Danegeld, in an attempt to stave off Viking attacks. He wasn't ready.

I object to this. Seriously.

Surely in a thread like this, you can only post one number at a time.

Otherwise that leaves the thread open to someone just posting 20 or 30 numbers at once.

Presumably you don't want that?

Since all posts after 1002 were invalid, let's get back on track:

The 1003 loan application, or Uniform Residential Loan Application, is the standardized form used by most mortgage lenders in the U.S. It is required by the Federal National Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae) and the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corp. (Freddie Mac) for mortgages that they purchase from lenders.

If this was the case, no numeral posts shouldn't happened. But they did. So we are doing this to balance the row. After it will be done, we are to continue on one by one.

1015 AD Vladimir I (the Great) dies at Berestove after a 35-year reign. He is succeeded by his son Sviatopolk I as Grand Prince of Kiev.

1016 AD Canute rises on the throne of England.

1017 AD Bulgaria is subdued by the Byzantine Empire, a rebellion will go on for a year until Ivats, a rebel and general of the late king Samuel, is captured and blinded.

1018 AD Canute rises on the throne of Denmark bringing England and Denmark under the same king for once.
