Sorry I think the original game is now lost in the mists of time. It seems to predate the start of the old forum. Would be good to track it down.
As I recall it started with me starting a thread called Ankara Crescent with the subtitle 'following on from last night's discussion, I thought we'd have a game of Ankara Crescent' and it spiraled from there.

https://vdiplomacy.net/variants.php?variantID=90 more details here. basically classic but with different rules for fleets and non SC territory allowing greater freedom of movement. played in forums traditionally but you can play it as a map in vdiplomacy by the looks of it.
