I would like to play!

My choices of characters are:

Nydar, as I am a pilot in real life! :)
Darren
Breath
Gulam
Will
Are you going to play as Nydar? Cause I am thinking about taking Gulam, which would work better if we had Nydar as a player.
Nydar will definitely be taken. Don't worry.

I'd play Nydar, Darren, Gulam, Christine Oxbow, or Will. Plenty of good options honestly. And BB likes to release secondary characters as well.

Any thoughts on factions? Having Will with China seems incredibly OP. Japan also seems pretty good. I could also see England being strong as well.

Alright, I am in as Gulam

I think China and Japan are definitely great options. England's value depends on our strategy for sure. Russia is another good option.

Elysium:
Due to weak investment and widespread domestic concerns on Earth there will be no stimulus. Factions will begin with whatever their sponsor nation has to spare. I presume most factions will have basic food, water and oxygen stores. Credits, Steel, and additional specialists may be scarce.

I would like to introduce you to our two supporting androids who have been donated to us for beta testing.

329cv is an Android which is fluent in Chinese, Japanese, German and English. She is non violent in programming and plays at a very high level in chess as well.

Mia is an intuitive Android dietician who specifically will be helping most of you get physically ready for being on Mars. Mia is also programmed to reject any violence. She can prepare vitamin supplements for you and research Martian soil as well if given samples to examine.

Elysium:
Our only other additional crew member is Domino, our Android Programmer. He will mostly be testing the Androids systems and ensuring they are within protocols from Triple Canopy.

So the starting base levels will deplete by 50% on Oxygen, water, and food, but we will produce some water. So that means when we reach Mars we have:

Oxygen 50%
Water 50% + whatever we produce
Food 32.5%
Morale 58%

Is this correct? Or do we deplete Morale? Do we deplete steel?

Bit confused here.

You will lose 50% of your food, and oxygen . Morale will not decrease.
Water should remain around the upper 90s

Elysium: Our world is in chaos. It seems that even our own employer Triple Canopy is being federally indicted for numerous counts of murder. Triple Canopy is considering scrapping our mission just to pay the legal fees.

I should tell you that several countries have requested our services if we decide to cut ties with our employer.

Some of these countries are desperate for good astronauts and have offered to pay you better than Triple Canopy. We are under contract with TC Android Manufacturing, but there are clauses in our contract if we would like to opt into the breach option.

Clause 1
It appears our financier plans to skimp on food for our mission in order to get us to Mawrth Vallis landing zone.

■This is grounds for negligence and does put our colony at risk of collapse immediately.

Clause 2
Mawrth is the LZ and has been identified as sub arctic zone, temperatures ranging from -67° to -89°.
The area does not experience dust storms and would be abundant in underground water and ice. JAXA (Japan) and CSN (China) have already begun plans to reach it first. However TC will beat both of their agencies because our shuttle is lightweight from Skimping on food.

Triple Canopy is prepared to beat any agency to this LZ at any risk because anyone on our crew who dies can he spared by reconstitution of their consciousness into an android body.

■Clause 3 TC is performing illegal human experiments and stealing peoples souls essentially.

As your OS I have been informed of this information by an anonymous member of our small crew. If TC learns that we know this information they may kill us.

PREGAME DECISIONS
1. Character Signup
2. Faction selection / Agency
3. Pregame decision

Triple Canopy is being suspected of numerous counts of illegal human experiments including consciousness theft.
A. Testify against Triple Canopy (Helps Android rights, Cuts ties with your financier)
B. Maintain silence (Gains you Loyalty to your Financier TC)
C. Invoke a clause to sever ties with employer (You choose a new Financier)

If you choose A or C:

(Available Financiers without national representation; this changes start of game)

•Hamilton Tectonics (Provides 2000 Credits to crew, wants old mars landers retrieved from dead zones)
+1000 Credits per retrieved lander
Estimated Mars shuttle arrival Feb. 20th

•Starlight Vapor (Provides 2000 Steel, wants 10000 Credits within 1 year or 20 phases)
+50% Extra Oxygen and extra Storage bay
Estimated Mars shuttle arrival Mar. 1st

•Brotherhood of Steel (Provides an EMP unique weapon which destroys Synths and Androids)
+5000 Steel
Estimated Mars arrival Feb. 19

•Vintage Travel (Provides an added bonus to cultural structures)
+1000 Credits, +500 Steel
Estimated Mars arrival Feb 22

(GM NOTE: Consider Pregame a long phase where you can show new players how this works. pick characters. light roleplaying and a few decisions that will affect the path this game goes)

@Tugster - did you want to play Nydar? If not, I'll take him. Otherwise, I'll take Darren.

Initially, I'm in favor of option A. We obviously need food and our financier is willing to send us without adequate food to survive. They also don't seem too concerned about our survival.

Yeah, Triple Canopy is into some very shady stuff. Continuing on with them would mean a lot of problems for us.
However, they also seem like the kind of company that holds grudges. Testifying against them (or even severing ties) could mean that they try to get back at us.

I think 0.1b is definitely the worst option

While 0.1a might be the most morally correct option, 0.1c is probably the safest option. If we testify against TC, they will retaliate. We could lose 329 and/or Mia.

##Vote YEA on 0.1c

I'd like to know more about the clauses in our contract that allow us to sever ties.

@Elysium - Do you have specific verbiage of the contract that would allow us to opt out?

We also need to decide on a new financier.

Brotherhood of Steel is the first to arrive, and gives us tons of steel, which will helps us build what we need right when we get there (provided we have the necessary production/workers). We also get a cool toy.

Hamilton Tectonics is based around getting credits (what do we use those for again?), and arrives the next day. Should probably figure out what we use credits for.

Vintage Travel is 2 days later, and is the most diverse. The only one to give us credits and steel (although both are small amounts), and we also get a cultural bonus. Not sure the diversity is worth it though.

Starlight Vapor seems like a bad idea. We arrive late, and we are in debt a lot of credits. Our starting resources is a relatively smaller amount of steel. The Oxygen might be nice, but we have other ways of getting Oxygen.
