Not a mark against you that you understood it differently Rumi, but a “townslip” is when someone makes comments that inadvertently reveal they either mechanically cannot be mafia or that their mindset is irreconcilable with mafia. Usually it’s in the context of expressing an ignorance of mechanics that you couldn’t be ignorant of as mafia, such as a private chat that functions during the day. (I use “ignorant” in a detached sense, not judging you for your lack of knowledge, just calling it what it is. You are doing great.)

Often people fake these as a joke regardless of alignment, but sometimes newer players genuinely townslip. My heuristic after a lot of games with newer players is that I just believe them until they prove to me that they can fake townslips to their advantage, because it’s often very harmful to the newer player’s enjoyment of the game to suspect them of something like that, and because they so rarely do it. I’ve been burned by this before (ask Sabi, they still revel in it), but it usually works out.

I don't know if you're town or scum, but I find your input and viewpoints helpful and beneficial to keep around.

I don't know about Neon, but I'll say I'm a princess incognito and I'm posting under a pen name rather than a name I'm known by.

Story time: GM DMs me like "weaponize your social anxiety" (mostly as a joke) and accidentally unlocked the hidden menu, and thus i expressed interest in what was meant by that and ultimately in joining a thing that I normally would never be interested in and probably kind of phobic of approaching.

I planned on signing up without telling him, but ran into a small problem with registration and outed it by mistake. So now i"m just here working on my social anxiety.

3) ghug - respected vet, if goes deep will be readable if scum
4) damo - unreadable, even I forget what side I'm on from time to time
5) Jamiet99uk - terrier like as town, gives himself away as scum
6) Rdrivera2005 - nearly always vt (but not this time I think)
7) Chaqa - very good as scum
8) Rumi Tobari - quasi townclear
9) Bo_Sox - always gets voted by ghug
10) Bonatogeter - I always incorrectly scumread Bona, be warned
11) President Eden - good all rounder, pretty sure he's town this game
12) celaph - quiet, deep, good, can gives himself away as scum
13) pyxxy - fairly new so dunno
14) sabi - tends to get voted out due to style
15) Neon - clearly experienced, stubborn, reminds me of snowy

In your experience how often is the question asked genuinely and without motive because in my very substantial experience the percentage chance of that being true is somewhere around 15% and I find it's better to never answer

I get asked this question in literally every single game I play outside my home forum I used to answer it. It's a toxic question more times than not and it is one of the only mafia things I refuse to compromise on or answer. I've died for it before I'm fine with dying for it again

it gets asked of every new player here because it establishes a baseline of what can be expected and provides data about the person in a way that everyone else can utilize.

I'm not surprised you were asked when it's an obvious question lmao. if you don't want to compromise on it, that's on you, but it's frankly counterproductive and bullheaded

How does my experience level have any singular bearing on what to expect from me. That is invalid.

Player 1 answers the question "I'm new" and is expected as a baseline to make mistakes and they do

Player 2 answers the same way the expectations remain the same they proceed to solve the game day 1 nobody believes their reads they are ignored they lose.

Yes these have both happened. One was in champs.

Player 1 answers "I've played many games" they are expected to contribute and understand mafia principles they do but they play in a strange way nobody understands they are killed for it they are Town.

Player 2 answers the same the expectation is the same they use the basic mafia ideas to easily hide as town and win the game in a clean sweep.

Yes these have both happened.

The question is not beneficial it only serves to form a false idea of how a player should play and can be used easily by wolves to spin a tale.

the question should not form an impression of how people should play based on their answer - if some other town did, that's on them for sucking.

The game was terrible because the balance was scum sided in terms of ratio of scum to town. They were running laps around town.

Regardless I wanted to highlight her town game that made me find her as town. She's playing the same way as here. But using that site is difficult and the playing style is more like chat mafia and not forum mafia but her tone and posting is similar.

We’re bad at sometimes telling if someone is taking the game seriously and being impacted. Know that this is just a deduction game and no one has malicious intentions IRL.
