I don't have much of an objection to people posting a lot. I do have an objection, however, to excessive chain-posting, as well as quoting large posts. It clogs up the thread.
The solution? snip, snip, snip.

Tricky to implement here, though. On MU it's coded into the site, so after your 150th post, the site stops you posting.
[insert comment about MU]

Ya if we were to do a postcap we would have to go by the honor system
Well, or the GM could sanction you somehow if you went over the limit.

Hmm maybe if you go over intentionally, your vote is automatically placed on yourself? Just brainstorming

Maybe your vote is invalid?

That would be a way, yes. If you post over 150 posts in a Day phase, your vote does not count. (But you still need to have cast one!).

I find people fucking up quotes trying to snip them to be far more annoying than the long posts in quotes.

The way MU does it is removing the limit in the last hour, which I think is important for maintaining game integrity and significantly complicates any change we make without tools.

You're right, they do do that. I think it would be quite laborious for our GMs to police and enforce the rule tbh.

Let’s not forget the easiest and most effective solution of all: public shame.

Longitudinal analysis of many years of Mafia games on this site reveals to me that many members of this community have absolutely no sense of shame.

So after a night's sleep, and a lot of chat in Discord, I'll make some comments.

I acknowledge that the setup worked out as slightly town-sided; the Angel team, in particular, was slightly too weak. But on reflection, and based on a lot of feedback from others, I do not think it is fundamentally broken.

The balance considerations when the setup was designed, assumed a number of things that did not play out in practice, partly due to decisions made by the two scum teams, and partly due to town decisions, as well as some luck.

In particular:

- It was anticipated that the Angel team would try to get a kill D1 and possibly on D2 when the large number of players makes it somewhat easier to spread votes around. In practice they did not do this.

- Judge Fear is a potentially serious threat to both Town and the Angels. Town was somewhat lucky that nobody visited him. Often, a low-posting newbie would be a popular scan target (i.e. Fidelis), but not in this game.

- Both scum teams deciding to holster N1 was somewhat surprising.

Town played well overall and Balki in particular deserves credit for showing leadership when it mattered. I thought Chaqa's scum play was overall very good also.

I will run this again some time in 2025, if permitted, with a number of changes:

- The potential town roles will include a Paranoid Cop as well as a naïve cop. (Paranoid Cop always returns "Guilty" irrespective of the target's actual role or alignment).

- The Angel gang will be given at least one non-conditional kill, potentially by changing the Pa Angel role to be a form of JOAT.

- The Mean Machine Angel mechanics will be revisited.

- Judge Death would be made a standard nightkiller with a kill every night, but no strongman.
I actually think making Judge Death 3x would be enough. Making it an every-night kill is probably an overreaction.

The best thing to do is to rework the angels to have a little bit more kill power. Changing Pa Angel to a JOAT is probably the right amount of tweaking.

I know it ended a bit rough but I though it was a very fun setup. I would like you to consider running more games this year. I am hoping to help more with setup review going forward since I have a history of mechanically diverse games.

I just looked at the bot, and I suppose I would be fine if we enacted a 150 post maximum.

It would trim the game a little and it wouldn't really affect the quality of my posts. I don't think I really ever quite hit that mark.

It is the light posts that often gives something to write about in the meaningful ones.
