Ah, scratch that, birth year doesn't work. Oh well.

Noted - I will therefore not count that as a guess. (You're right that it can't be Catherine Tate because she was born in 1969).

Wow. Surprising how many actresses with an E in their name, born in 1978 or later, have played the Companion. I can only narrow it down to 7.

I can now narrow it down to 3. I've used my free guess but could brute force the answer by taking up 2 of the next questions. I'll leave it to someone else to get some more information first.

Well, technically, you can't, because you're only allowed one more question, before you'd have to wait for someone else to ask a question, anyway.

Rule interpretation: I don't think I asked the last question. The last two questions were Pearl Mackie and Catherine Tate. I think I'm entitled to two questions in a row now.
No player shall ask more than two consecutive questions or make more than two consecutive guesses (or a consecutive combination thereof)

Free guesses do not count as questions. The "questions" that count for that purpose are the 20 questions which give the game its name. The wording of the rule you're quoting means nobody is allowed more than two consecutive guesses either.

Catherine Tate was not counted as a guess as it was withdrawn before I answered it, and I ruled that it was therefore not counted (which I clearly stated).

You can have one guess now if you wish (which burns a question from the remainder available).

Hmm, rules need work then, because it appear questions and guesses are treated together for the purpose of this rule.

Do you want to burn a question by having one non-free guess, or not, Gooner?

For the benefit of future games I suggest the rule in question be reworded thus:

No player shall ask more than two consecutive questions, or make more than two consecutive guesses (whether free guesses or question-costing guesses), or a consecutive combination thereof.

No, as I said, I'll wait for someone else to have a turn. I've narrowed it down to 2, but brute force is no fun.

Damn. Neither of my possibilities has an M in their name. That's not going to help me!

Thanks to Jamie for giving me another guess. I then use my free guess on Jenna Coleman. (Gooner, I hope I am wrong and this helps you narrow it down!)
