1299:
July 27 – Osman I declares his Anatolian beylik (principality) to be independent of the Seljuq Dynasty Sultanate of Rum, originating the Ottoman Empire, with Söğüt as the original capital, which will last until the 1920s.

This is also a big one.

From what I have read the battle wasn't the only thing done wrong in this movie!

1298 AD After a year's siege, the revolting commune of Palestrina (near Rome) under the Colona family, surrenders, and is razed to the ground and salted by order of Pope Boniface VI. Palestrina surrendered after a Papal offer of amnesty which was made with no intention of honouring it.

1300 (C.E.):

Aztec culture starts in Mesoamerica (approximate date).

Also remember our glorious commander Flavius Aetius wants 1337. In recognition of his defeat of Attila we should grant this wish.

1302 -
COL11A2 collagen type XI alpha 2 chain [ Homo sapiens (human) ]
Gene ID: 1302
This gene encodes one of the two alpha chains of type XI collagen, a minor fibrillar collagen. It is located on chromosome 6 very close to but separate from the gene for retinoid X receptor beta. Type XI collagen is a heterotrimer but the third alpha chain is a post-translationally modified alpha 1 type II chain. Proteolytic processing of this type XI chain produces PARP, a proline/arginine-rich protein that is an amino terminal domain. Mutations in this gene are associated with type III Stickler syndrome, otospondylomegaepiphyseal dysplasia (OSMED syndrome), Weissenbacher-Zweymuller syndrome, autosomal dominant non-syndromic sensorineural type 13 deafness (DFNA13), and autosomal recessive non-syndromic sensorineural type 53 deafness (DFNB53). Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. A related pseudogene is located nearby on chromosome 6. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2009]

For your information I understand hardly any of this

1303 AD An earthquake with Crete as an epicentre, rocks the whole of the western Mediterranean and severely damages the Lighthouse of Alexandria one of the last surviving wonders of the world. It will survive in part for 150 years before it will be demolished in favour of a coastal fort.

1307 AD On October 13th King Philip the IV ordered the arrest of all the surviving Knight Templars, not many after the fall of the Holy Land, with the cooperation of PopeClement the V. (that's how the Friday the 13th superstition was born). In England (where the papal word had less of a weight) few were arrested, and most escaped to Scotland. In Spain, they were admitted to Santiago's Knights and went on to fight the Muslims.

1308

Dante Alighieri commences writing The Divine Comedy (and has a lovely little tomb/shrine in Ravenna I visited - great city)

King Philip IV of France purchases the Hôtel de Nesle, and builds one of the earliest indoor tennis courts there (and there I was thinking it was a predominantly English in origin game)

The sultanate of Rum finds its bitter end.

1309

The city of Rhodes surrenders to the forces of the Knights of St. John, completing their conquest of Rhodes. The knights establish their headquarters on the island and rename themselves as the Knights of Rhodes! (very unoriginal I might add, definitely lost their swag)

1310

54 members of the Knights Templar are burned at the stake for heresy in France (the Spanish and English remaining Knights Templar fair much better)

And in fond memory of my student days, the first purpose-built accommodation for students (the Mob Quad) is completed in Merton College, Oxford.

1311 AD Battle of Halmyros (near today's Volos): The Catalan Company defeats Walter V, Count of Brienne and his forces, to take control of the Duchy of Athens.

1312 AD Pope Clement V officially disbands the Knights Templar. This is following years of persecution of the Knights Templar and execution on the pyre.

1313 AD Guillaume de Nogaret, councillor and keeper of the seal to Philip IV of France (and mastermind of the Templars' fall) dies.

1314 AD Jacob De Molais, the last leader of the Templars dies at the stake. Before the fire is lit he proclaims his and his order's innocence and declares that God will revenge them by taking the lives of both the king and the pope (Nogaret was lucky to have died already) and furthermore Philip's line of succession would end. Philip, having four sons, laughed at this but a month later Clement died and by the end of the year he was also dead. His sons all died without an heir and indeed his line came to an end. Templars were innocent I guess.

1315 AD Louis X is crowned King of France at Reims.

1316 AD Louis dies and his son is king from the moment of his birth to the moment of his death which unfortunately is five days later (the curse of De Molais, we were talking about...)
