Not yet.

The narrator of the book shares a name with a virtual assistant.
Alexa? Siri?
I feel like if I give the narrator's name outright it'll instantly pinpoint the book, lol.

Narrator is named Siri, yes.

leon1122 is the winner! The word was blindsight, defined as;
the ability to respond to visual stimuli without consciously perceiving them, a condition which can occur after certain types of brain damage.
It's also the title of a sci-fi novel I'm reading at the moment — the author, Watts, has it released for free online so I will happily recommend this book to anyone. Bit o' a mindfuck at points but it's gentle, really.

Various e-book formats available on his site: https://www.rifters.com/real/Blindsight.htm

This was the quote that pulled me in:
Evolution has no foresight. Complex machinery develops its own agendas. Brains — cheat. Feedback loops evolve to promote stable heartbeats and then stumble upon the temptation of rhythm and music. The rush evoked by fractal imagery, the algorithms used for habitat selection, metastasize into art. Thrills that once had to be earned in increments of fitness can now be had from pointless introspection. Aesthetics rise unbidden from a trillion dopamine receptors, and the system moves beyond modeling the organism. It begins to model the very process of modeling. It consumes evermore computational resources, bogs itself down with endless recursion and irrelevant simulations. Like the parasitic DNA that accretes in every natural genome, it persists and proliferates and produces nothing but itself. Metaprocesses bloom like cancer, and awaken, and call themselves I.
Either this one, or the following lol
I brought her flowers one dusky Tuesday evening when the light was perfect. I pointed out the irony of that romantic old tradition — the severed genitalia of another species, offered as a precopulatory bribe — and then I recited my story just as we were about to fuck.

To this day, I still don't know what went wrong.

Finally guessed one! Though there wasn't much guessing required at the end. :-D

I've had my words for a while now. It's a 2-word phrase, no hyphen. It goes in a bit of a different direction from the words we've had recently.

Is the first word longer, shorter or the same length as the second one?

There are 2 acceptable spellings for the first word. In one case it is shorter than the second word. In the other case it is the same length as the second word.

Flavour palette
Does the first word contain a u in one of its spellings?

Flavor palette is wrong. The first word contains a u in both of its spellings.
