1843 - an especially cold year in the United States. 15 military outposts reported record minimum temperatures, like Fort Snelling, Fort Leavenworth, Jefferson Barracks, Fort Gibson, Fort Jesup, Fort Brooke, Fort Moultrie, Fort Monroe, Fort McHenry, Fort Columbus, Alleghany Arsenal, Watervliet Arsenal, West Point, Fort Constantine, and Benicia.

The weather is possibly a result of volcanic eruptions in Mt Etna, and an eruption on Mt St Helens

1846 is the 70th smallest divisor of 25^10-1, or the (2+5)*10^1 th. It is one of only three numbers that are also one of the most recent 250 years that fits this criterion, the others being 1804 and 1968.

In 1854, the famed Charge of the Light Brigade, immortalized by the poem of the same name written by Lord Alfred Tennyson, occurred during the Crimean war, due to a lack of communication between commanders.

1858, a sequence of notes playable on the valveless bugle, and other non valved brass instruments. In the key of C, these notes would be C4-C5-G4-C5, with 8 indicating the octave of a chord, and 5 the fifth.
