What is the best country in bot games?

From my personal experience, it appears to be either Turkey or Germany with the strategy for both being to do nothing that offends Russia and then stab them in the endgame. What do you think?

I've found winning with Italy to be almost absurdly easy (though admittedly a small sample size) - just don't attack Austria in 1901 and he'll roll over for you, plus the computer seems to suck at recognizing critical stalemate positions, so getting into and past MAO when you start growing is much easier than it ought to be.

Interesting. I've always struggled with Russia, but I found a new strategy I tried out here:
https://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?game ... #gamePanel

Ally with Turkey, do the northern opening, and don't offend Austria. Basically, keep the south as quiet as possible and go all out in Scandanavia. The first time I tried this, Turkey was uncooperative, and I only got a one sc draw as part of a stalemate line. One other place the AIs seem lacking is recognizing winning positions. Like "If I do this, I'll reach 18", or "If I don't do this, he'll get 18" and so on

Heres another success as Russia following the same strategy

That one is interesting to me. Turkey opened to the Black Sea but still decided to work together with you. You could be on to something.

The first time I tried this, I didn't move to Ukraine and so Turkey promptly took Rumania. I'm glad Austria didn't open to Galicia. That would have been a problem. Maybe I'll keep trying until that happens to see if it still works

I used to think that too. The strategy is completely different. 71 bot games later though, I've mostly got the hang of it

And check out this one! As Russia, I finished with two scs in Holland and Belgium despite never having more than 5 centers. One of the oddest games I have played

I've been keeping a spreadsheet of my games against the bots. I'm currently on my 3rd play through as each power. I would consider myself an average gunboat player and in a couple of these (the French non-solo and the 1 center Russian draw) I made move entry mistakes that probably cost me significantly.

In any case, for me, F/G/I are strong (I'm still trying to figure out how two Italian solos happened), E, then T, then R...

...and then poor, poor, Austria. Neither I nor the bots have had any success there.

The bots don't know how to play as Austria, but if a player draws it, it's a winnable game if things break right. But you're also at solid odds to get hostile R/I/T opens and just die quickly, and there's little you can do about it.

Yeah, I've never really found a trick to it either. I always wind up at war with an R/T/I.

I also have trouble with France. I seem to always get 5-6 center draws. Does anyone know the trick? With England I seem to struggle too.

I just finished a very interesting game : http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=265151.
The first country to get his 7th center was Turkey in Autumn 1911, and the first one to get his 8th center was Austria in Autumn 1914 !

Whew. I just finished a crazy game in GvI. I won with 18 supply centers defended by 10 units. It was a crazy rush at the end to get all the scs before Italy crushed me

I finally got a win with Austria in my 4th attempt. Italy went Lepanto, Turkey went after Russia, and even though Russia got into Gal, he didn't attack in Autumn '01...

I probably should not have won this. Russia was stupid by moving StP when G was supporting from Nwy and Germany could have stopped me from taking Mar (I think).

I agree, I'm at 4 solos out of 4 attempts with Italy at this point with the same basic pattern although they didn't feel easy at the time. I got into MAO in 3 of 4 if I recall correctly.... there was one game with an unnecessary convoy from Apulia to Brest that I did at the end of one game just because I could.

Also, I had a win with England where Germany's opening moves were to Holland, Tyrolia, and Silesia... where did the AI learn *that* from?
