I love this part...
The great thing about Diplomacy is that it really is a great place to make friends. If you click with someone and the friendship continues after the blood has been cleaned off the board…you’ve found a friend for life. Hold onto that guy but always check his pockets for knives.

WDC in Birmingham in 200? used drop dead timing. Big clock, a box for each table that was zealously guarded by a tournament official, and if your orders weren't in at deadline, they weren't accepted.
