The Hundred? Also Test Cricket is still the highest form of the game. I can't watch 20/20 at all - drives me insane - 50/50 is OK.

What has happened to English cricket though - just one of those re-building phases or something more serious?
I am the same way. Nothing beats a good Test or ODI for me. 20/20 is just not cricket and if they ever bring in 10/10 or Hundred seriously I'll just laugh. Not every game needs to be at a frenetic pace. There is a time and place for everything and cricket is the place for one days and full test matches.

Thank you The Flying Boat, I agree with your comments whokeheartedly.

20/20 is a television spectacle for people with no patience, it reinforces a "everything now" mentality & rash actions, less care in risk reward choices, situations. It's circus cricket. May as well play amatuer park cricket with tennis balls if you want entertainment bang for families for dollars spent compared to attending one of these affairs in person with spouse & fledglings & funding that ghastly trial of parental composure.
Ten ball overs, for a pace bowler, the genuine speed bowlers, off long runs. Ten ball overs? Share these ten ball overs between two bowlers, each has to bowl at least three balls of the ten, they can be in any order. Dress in funny baggy pants?
It's a TV creative whippersnapper's wet dream. One who never played sports at school or with siblings, the only child prodigy of prinary school Art classes.

The strength of australia's test cricket squads is the State based Sheffield Shield competition. Games over several days, two innings by each team, no over limit oer unnings. A form of the game that replicates test cricket.
That's an old fogey's worry, less Sheffield Shield games as they are dispkaced by shorter variants at the State level will weaken our test teams, make the step into the Test level a bigger step, new players will need more experience to get going, struggle to hold a spot early on.

Unfortunately everyone sees how much money is to be made with 20/20 and they probably correctly assume that even more is to be made with 100 ball matches. I already have the NBA and the NHL for my high paced frenetic action sports. I have college football and the NFL for my highly strategic and tactical sport of short burst of intensity. Why can't I have one game that is a pure slog that rewards patience and thoughtful balance?

I don't mind 20/20 personally, I think it's a bit of good fun, but if it kills off tests or 50/50 (which it is absolutely trying to do) then I will be very disappointed. Tests are a unique and wonderful form of cricket, and of sports in general. Also has a lot more nice depth and complexity to it that you don't really get anywhere else.

The Pink Third Test at the Synney Cricket Ground is in it's third day. Australia scored 416 runs in their first innings. The Tourists are 4 wickets down for 69 runs. Ben Stokes had an amazing escape, a fast ball from Green hit off stump high up with force to shift the stump sideways, the bail moved but did not fall off.
The continual failure of the top four batsmen to score runs is again exposed, 4 out for 36 runs chasing 416 is a diabolical failure.
Scott Boland has bowled brilliantly as have the other Australian bowlers.

The Pink Test raises money to help fight breast cancer and other cancers primarily impacting on women. 14th year of having a Pink Test match at SCG, over $Aus3 million raised so far from this one for Jane McGrath Foundation charity.

The Tourists are 7 for 258 and Jonny Bairstow just smacked a neat 4 to move from 99 to 103 not out. Ben Stokes scored a much needed half century

Fifth day of the Pink Test at the Synney Cricket Ground, the best news is that over $Aus 5 million had been raised for the Jane McGrath Foundation & we thank the Torists for managing to bat well enough to take the game into the fifth day.

As I watch Lyon is bowling, The Tourists are 5 for 199 runs needing 388 runs.
Lyon just got the wicket of Stokes who has been one of The Tourist's better batsmen with two half centuries in this game.
However the difference in batting resources between Australia & The Tourists is exemplified by the performance of Australia's replacement opener Khuwaja who scored centuries in both innings.
Two more overs until new ball available and then a minimum of 22 overs. Five wickets to take for a fourth win.

Ha! Glorious draw! Australia in complete disarray after being frustrated by a brilliant England. If only we had a few more overs and a bit of luck... and a lot more overs and a hell of a lot more luck... England would have won! The dreams of a clean sweep are in tatters! You can almost smell the Australian terror of the 5th test!

Thank you, Wusti. Much appreciated.

And thank you also to the Australian government for going out of their way to make the sporting story of the season about tennis rather than the unfortunate mess that passes for cricket.

Aren't we wonderful? On another note, if you haven't seen this year's Aussie lamb ad yet, you need to.

Re Novax the Tennis Prima Donna pal of Bosnian War Criminals, every now and then our Federal Government spontaneously kidnaps a visiting International Celebrity, it started with Old Blue Eyes, Frank Sinatra. Recent hostages include Johnny Depp, Amber Heard & their dogs. Now Novax has his turn.
It's very popular with the Rustics in the Outback & rural Queensland.
Genuine asylum seekers are incarcerated for decades and denied easy access to our Courts, unlike our Celebrity Hostages.
There are rumors here that Novax has been offered a wildcard entry to the Manus Island Detention Centre Tennis Open.

Well the Fifth test has commenced in Hobart, it's a day night test to appease the tv broadcasters & maximise their advertising revenues.
Well after the first session The Tourists will be happily eating their Cold Eel pies & quafging back warm lager with happy enthusiasm.
At Dinner, and I am still trying to reconcile myself with that preposterous notion, after the first session it should be luncheon, not dinner, but these whippersnappers will meddle with established conventions, The Tourists have in 24 overs taken four Australian wickets, conceding 85 runs.

I am.not sure what is the cause of this unexpected phenenom and suspect that at 3 nil up, with one draw, the Australians have chosen to exploit the opportunity to mess with The Tourists in the way a Cat plays with a Mouse it has caught.

If this suspicion is correct I dare say it has something to do with wagering. The bold Australian test cricketers may have decided that Aussue punters, like their pal Punter Ponting, deserve longer odds on an Austrian win than the extremely short priced odds of a certain favourite.

Typos, the odds on an Austrian win would be 1,000s to one.
However the loss of four wickets in the first session will have shifted the odds on an Australian victory.

I suspect that the Australian team have broken some covid law or other (there's enough of them over there) and will soon be forced to forfeit the series, leaving England victorious.

... any minute now...

... just you wait...

Mark Wood is bowling beautifully for The Tourists. Day three, Australia 6 out for 64 runs, lead by 179 runs. There should be a result.
Given the furore over Tennis Prima Donna Novax & public hostility here towards PM Smirko, I doubt if Smirko has any desire to meddle in cricketing affairs here.
Tennis is a sport we like, but Test Cricket is of far greater importance to us. Austriam PMs are generally servile acolytes to our Test Cricket Teams & Cricket Australia.

Well The Tourists, chasing 270 runs for a draw, 271 runs for victory are 7 wickets for 115 runs as I post this....
Australia need 3 wickets for victory... and Boland has just taken one, Woakes out for 5 runs.

Captain Cummins has knocked over the last wicket. Australia win by 146 runs.
Winning the series 4 ~ nil.
