I was just wondering what the proper way to deal with a recent issue is.

Back in late 2017 I played a game with a particular "gentleman", who was issuing terrible press and I ditched a WT with him as a result, (swapping out France for Turkey) only to see him turn feral.

Fast forward a couple of months and this guy starts private messaging me and harassing me over it, after a gap of months, over a game founded on betrayal and stabs.

Normally I'm a big boy and don't give 2 shits about people like him, and put it down to a personal issue on his side, but if he is guilty of a pattern, I'm irresponsible not to report it.

What is community feeling on this kind of problem, and should it be reported (and if so how), or is it best left for him to rant until he slumps in exhaustion and just goes away?

I think it is a problem that you can't mute people in this new forum.

You can mute people. Just set them as “foe” with the friend/foe feature

Publicly humiliate him by telling us who it is

I specifically refrained from doing that - it'll be interesting if he dobs himself in though - he's a Top 50 player.

Not all diplomacy players are nice, and thank God for that as the occasional bastard enriches the game considerably. This player, from what you've said, has clearly contributed a great deal to the site in terms of providing high quality games, for which they deserve a degree of respect and gratitude.

Having said that, abusing the PM system isn't on. What I'd do, assuming he doesn't stop after you ask him to, is to contact the mods so they can have a quiet word with him. I suspect that will be the end of the matter.

Irrespective of who it may have been, the best course of action is always to tell a Mod.

We are all emotional beings and sometimes this game can bring out the worst in all of us. In my view, though, in-game issues should remain 'on the board'.

I do wonder whether some kind of code of conduct might be an idea, setting out expected standards of behaviour, and potential penalties. It needn't be public. It could just sit behind the scenes and, when Mods receive and investigate complaints, they could invite perpetrators to confirm adherence to it or face consequences (e.g. Bans, point deductions etc.).

Just an idea.

That was the point of the post - not to publicly demean someone, but to open a discussion on expectations, community views and processes etc. I wish the Mods or Zultar would give a comment on their view to be honest.

I say we go on a witch hunt. I bet it was Zultar himself smh

The vast majority of webDip players don't bother with the forum. The chances are he's completely unaware that this thread exists.
