17 here. Put on to the game about 2 years ago by a D&D video by a guy named Matt Colville (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWt0AQWjhPg), then spread the word to my friends (Hey Bob!).
Never played FtF, looking forward to the opportunity though.

I am 36. I recently started playing. The first time I heard about it was from my wife. She goes to grad school and they have an ongoing game of Diplomacy in between the students. She is 33 but most of the other players are in their mid/late twenties.
So, to answer the first question, I would say probably it is passed down amongst the enthusiasts.

Welcome Sametheon and Macca573 to Webdiplomacy. Disengaged Millennials playing with IT devices make excellent webdiplomacy players if they stick at it and observe & learn from the strategies & tactics employed by cunning players like Goldfinger and other luminaries of the Webdiplomacy Caper.
Be very careful if a Peregrine Falcon fellow tells you that you can keep Liverpool or Bombarding Thomas tells you he's committed to a Draw, neither situation will end well.
If you are extremely fortunate you might see Beloved Dipbro Jamiet99Uk playing with Germany and serve up his famous Silesian Surprise in a high stakes game.
Don't ever backstab Beloved Dipbro Brainbomb, you can stab everyone else but not Beloved Dipbro Brainbomb, he is quite capable of steering his nation to defeat without anyone backstabbing him and it's considered poor manners to stab such Lovable Daffy Artistic Scallywag Fellow like our beloved Dipbro Brainbomb.

52. Started mid 1980s with friends and then at LA conventions (Orccon, Gateway). After moving to the East Coast in 1990 discovered the Category 23 - "Cat23" - Diplomacy discussion board on GEnie (General Electric's idea to sell mainframe off hours time with a sort of uber BBS) where a strong community thrived. Attended the first AvalonCons in the PA/MD area (later WBCs) in mid 90s. After moving back West in '98 almost no Dip play except for a few judge games until March 2020 when I happily discovered both this site and Backstabbr.

I'm 25, which means that back in the good old days around 2015 when my persona shined through on this forum in such lovable, professional ways I was about 8.
I always thought Bo was in his 40s as a site admin, maybe I should pay more attention.

So if you are now 25 in this very year of 2021 and 2015 you've been 8, that means you've aged by 17 years in these six years. Surprisingly, if my math isn't wrong, you will hit 150 by 2065, just a bit short to the 150 year memorandum for WWI. Too bad this didn't work out, or else we could've shared some old war stories.
